Policy Intern

We are seeking a Policy Intern to assist the Policy Manager in policy research, development, and coordination in alignment with DHS's mission, values, and vision. The Policy Intern at Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) collaborates within the Office of Administration, supporting various internal offices. 

Responsibilities:

The Policy Intern will:

• Assist in research, writing, and formatting of policies, procedures, and standards of practice for DHS offices.
• Support DHS staff with policy-related tasks in the policy workflow.
• Assist in organizing and coordinating meetings and workgroups related to policy projects.
• Contribute to the development of training materials for covering policy writing, best practices, and policy management software usage.
• Provide administrative support, such as document management and data entry, related to administration of the policy management software.
• Help in preparing reports on policy engagement and workflow issues.
• Support the Policy Manager with day-to-day tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a program of higher education (social sciences, humanities, business, law, etc.).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic research and analytical skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
• Eagerness to learn and adapt.
• Attention to detail.

Additional Requirements:

• Allegheny County Residency (local student address)
• It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check.
• This is not a remote work position.

Duration and Compensation:

• Duration: The internship is a commitment of at least 20 hours per week, spanning one semester.
• Compensation: Pay is $15/ hour
