Pool Nuclear Medicine Technologist I - TGH Imaging Habana

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist I performs routine nuclear medicine and PET imaging procedures under the direction of a Radiologist, Facility Manager, or Supervisor in accordance with established protocols for patients of varying age groups. This role requires foundational technical skills in nuclear medicine, the ability to administer radiopharmaceuticals safely, and the judgment necessary to obtain high‑quality diagnostic images. The technologist operates imaging equipment, ensures proper patient positioning, processes images, and supports exam documentation while adhering to all radiation safety requirements. The position may include PET/CT responsibilities and floating between locations as needed. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist I works under supervision in complex situations but demonstrates independence in routine tasks, contributing to efficient workflow and high‑quality patient care.

Essential Functions:

• Completes routine scans in accordance with established protocols and radiologist instructions. 
• Confirms orders match scheduled exams, reviews clinical indications, and accurately documents patient symptoms and exam details. 
• Prepares and administers isotopes following safety guidelines, department protocols, and regulatory requirements. 
• Positions patients and uses immobilization devices as necessary to ensure diagnostic image quality. 

• Sets exposure factors, positions gamma cameras or PET/CT scanners, and ensures proper operation during exams. 

• Reviews images for clarity, accuracy, and diagnostic quality, repeating images if necessary. 
• Applies ALARA principles, monitors exposure, and ensures safe handling and disposal of radioactive materials. 
• Verifies exam titles, updates billing codes when needed, and ensures prior studies are available for comparison. 
• Completes daily QC tasks, checks for equipment issues, and reports malfunctions promptly.
• Stocks supplies, assists colleagues, maintains clean work areas, floats to other sites as needed, and completes other duties assigned. 

Education\: 

• Graduate from a Technical Program - Nuclear Medicine Technology

License:

• General Radiographer, Nuclear Medicine Technologist, Radiation Therapy Technologist

Certification:

• BLS
• ARRT (N) Registered
• NMTCB Registered (CNMT)

Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Understanding of general nuclear medicine protocols, PET procedures, radiopharmaceutical handling, and imaging workflows. 
• Ability to identify anatomical structures, understand physiological processes, and follow procedures for safe tracer administration. 
• Understanding of ALARA principles, handling of radioactive materials, and safety guidelines for patients, staff, and the public. 
• Ability to position patients properly, adjust equipment for optimal imaging, and operate nuclear medicine and PET systems effectively. 
• Ability to explain procedures, reduce patient anxiety, provide compassionate care, and maintain clear communication with healthcare staff. 
• Competency in PACS, RIS, image processing systems, and maintaining accurate records, while performing tasks with attention to detail and timeliness.
