Job Description - Position: Vision Services Educator (TVI)

Job Title: Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)

Employment Type: Full-Time | School Year: 2025–2026

Start Date: August 2025

We are seeking a dedicated and student-centered Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to join our educational team for the 2025–2026 school year. This full-time, school-based position offers the opportunity to support students with visual impairments across various grade levels, helping them access curriculum, develop independence, and reach their fullest potential.

The ideal candidate is an adaptable and collaborative educator with experience in providing specialized instruction to students with visual impairments. You’ll play a vital role in assessing student needs, delivering direct services, and supporting general education teams through consultation and adapted materials.

As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI), you will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) that address the specific needs of students with visual impairments. You will provide direct instruction in areas such as Braille, assistive technology, and, if certified, orientation and mobility. Instructional materials will be modified and adapted to ensure accessibility for all students. Collaboration with general education teachers, related service providers, and families is essential to support an inclusive learning environment. You will also conduct functional vision assessments and learning media assessments to help determine the most effective instructional strategies and tools. Regular progress monitoring will inform instructional adjustments, and accurate documentation will be maintained in compliance with federal and state special education requirements. Creating a structured, supportive, and positive learning environment that encourages student independence and growth is a core part of this role. Ongoing communication with families will be prioritized to keep them informed and engaged in their child’s progress.

Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in Visual Impairments. Experience working with students who have a range of visual impairments, including those with additional needs, is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technologies, large print materials, and accessible instructional design is essential. Ideal candidates will demonstrate excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills. A bachelor’s degree in Visual Impairments or Special Education is required, with a master’s degree strongly preferred.
