The Post Doctoral Scholar will pursue specialized research training and experience in the fields of cancer and the microbiome in the labs of Dan Spakowicz, Ph.D. MS, Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine (Principal Investigator) within the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Ohio State University with joint mentoring by Laura Chambers, DO.
Dan Spakowicz, Ph.D. MS, Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine (Principal Investigator) within the Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology and the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Ohio State University, with joint mentoring by a clinical faculty member, determined according to the applicant's expertise and development goals.
Together, Spakowicz and Chambers lab study how the microbiome affects the response to cancer treatments, especially immunotherapy, and how it can be modified to promote response to treatment and decreased toxicity. They conduct clinical trials that leverage the microbiome as a biomarker of response or as a therapeutic target. In the lab, the group uses model systems to establish causal relationships between the microbiome, the immune system, and treatment responses. In addition, the lab leads a national collaboration among 21 cancer centers to study the tumor microbiome and how it can be leveraged to improve cancer outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
Genome-resolved microbiome analysis from human clinical trials and murine models.
Evaluate the causal effects of the microbiome on cancer treatment outcomes
Collaborate effectively with faculty and lab members for analyses, manuscripts, and grant applications
Minimum Education Required:
Doctoral Degree in Cancer Biology, Immunology, Microbiology, or related field required
Required Qualifications:

Predictive modeling
Requires successful completion of a background check

By the start of employment, all newly hired employees must receive at least the first dose of a two-dose series or a single dose of a one-dose series COVID-19 vaccination. Individuals who choose a two-dose series vaccination must receive the second dose within 45 days of their start date. Proof of vaccination will be required at time of hire.
