Job Description - Postdoctoral Research Associate, Infrastructure Monitoring & Assessment

A full-time post-doctoral position in pavement infrastructure monitoring and assessment is available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of New Hampshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and coding workflow processes and designing experiments for multisensory data collection from air- borne (unpiloted aerial systems) and vehicular mounted sensor systems for determining pavement functional and structural conditions. The project that the candidate will be working on is funded by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Cold Regions Research Engineering Lab (CRREL). Successful candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering, Geography, or related field with experience in geospatial data processing and python programming. Candidates should also have knowledge of optical, lidar, and ground penetrating radar sensing systems and understanding of pavement structures and condition assessment. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work well in a team setting and be highly self-motivated. The position will initially be for one year with the possibility for extension based on performance and continuation of funding.

Duties/Responsibilities

(70%)

  • Developing work-flow processes and coding them to automate processing of multisensory data from air-borne (unpiloted aerial systems) and vehicular mounted sensor systems for determining pavement functional and structural conditions;.
  • Identifying pavement field sites for multisensory data collection.
  • Designing laboratory experiments for benchmarking sensor performances.

(20%)

  • Developing research products in form of technical reports, presentations and journal articles

(10%)

  • Supervising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

  • PhD degree in Civil Engineering, Geography, or related fields

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient in geospatial data processing
  • Python programming experience
  • Knowledge of optical, lidar, and ground penetrating radar sensing systems
  • General understanding of pavements and condition assessment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team setting and be self-motivated

Other Requirements:

  • Established publication record in peer reviewed journals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with GIS, UAV data and data processing
