Job Description - Powe Ranch - Sous Chef

Slate Bistro & Bar





Position Summary 


The Sous Chef plays a key leadership role in the daily operations of Slate Bistro & Bar’s kitchen. This position supports the Thompson Golf Group Corporate Chef in executing high-quality, consistent food while maintaining kitchen standards for safety, cleanliness, and efficiency. The Sous Chef leads by example, helps develop the culinary team, and ensures a positive, professional kitchen culture. 



Key Responsibilities 


Kitchen Operations 



  • Assist the Executive Chef with daily kitchen operations, prep, and service execution 



  • Ensure consistent food quality, presentation, and portion control 



  • Oversee line execution during service and step in as needed to maintain flow 



  • Assist with menu execution, specials, and seasonal offerings 


Team Leadership & Training 



  • Supervise and support kitchen staff, fostering teamwork and accountability 



  • Train new hires and coach staff on recipes, techniques, and kitchen standards 



  • Lead shifts in the Executive Chef’s absence 



  • Promote a respectful, professional, and efficient work environment 


Food Safety & Sanitation 



  • Enforce all food safety, sanitation, and health department standards 



  • Ensure proper food handling, storage, labeling, and temperature controls 



  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen at all times 


Inventory & Cost Control 



  • Assist with inventory management, ordering, and receiving 



  • Help control food costs, waste, and portioning 



  • Monitor product quality and vendor deliveries 


Standards & Compliance 



  • Follow all Slate Bistro & Bar and Thompson Golf Group policies and procedures 



  • Ensure compliance with labor, safety, and company standards 


Qualifications 



  • 2–4 years of kitchen leadership experience preferred 



  • Strong culinary skills with experience in high-volume or upscale casual dining 



  • Knowledge of food safety standards and kitchen best practices 



  • Ability to lead, train, and motivate a diverse team 



  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills 



  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays 


Physical Requirements 



  • Ability to stand for extended periods 



  • Lift up to 50 lbs 



  • Work in a fast-paced, hot kitchen environment
