TERRITORY: Birmingham, AL 

JOB SUMMARY: Make-A-Wish Alabama seeks a creative, detail-oriented PR & Communications Coordinator to join our Advancement team. This role supports integrated marketing and communications efforts that elevate our mission, drive engagement, and build brand awareness across the state.

As part of a collaborative team, the PR & Communications Coordinator will contribute to storytelling, content creation, social media, graphic design, video production, and public relations. The ideal candidate is a versatile communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and enjoys both strategic thinking and hands-on content development.

Requirements

PR & COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  

  • Develop and execute creative, brand-aligned content across social media, email, web, and print platforms
  • Design graphics and marketing materials using Canva and, occasionally, Adobe Creative Suite
  • Capture and edit video and photography for digital storytelling and campaign promotion
  • Contribute to managing and maintaining the organization’s social media presence, including content planning, posting, and engagement
  • Serve as a front-facing presence in select social media content, bringing creativity, authenticity, and personality to support engaging, mission-aligned storytelling
  • Support email marketing campaigns with compelling visuals and messaging
  • Assist with website updates and other digital content needs
  • Create materials to support events, donor stewardship, and community engagement
  • Write and edit content for newsletters, social media, and press releases
  • Draft and distribute press releases and coordinate earned media opportunities
  • Assist with occasional media interviews, pitching, and coordinating media campaigns
  • Help ensure brand consistency across all internal and external communications
  • Track and share media mentions and analytics to inform strategy and demonstrate impact
  • Participate in local and statewide events as needed
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Leadership Team

PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred fields: communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, multimedia production, graphic design, or digital media
  • 1–3 years of relevant professional experience required; internship experience may supplement but not replace full-time work experience
  • Strong graphic design and/or video editing skills
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
  • Knowledge of social media platforms, trends, and best practices
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • A team-oriented mindset with a passion for mission-driven work.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion for the Make-A-Wish mission
  • Integrity, maturity, and ethical awareness
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce a plus

  

SALARY RANGE: Low $40,000s
