Job Description - Practice Administrator

As the only independent and physician-led faculty practice plan of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, University Clinical Health (UCH) offers best-in-class clinical care through a network of 175+ providers across 19 specialties to meet the healthcare needs of the Mid-South community. UCH is a not-for-profit, non-tax-supported group practice and is here to serve the community while providing medical excellence to our patients.

Position Summary:

The Practice Administrator is responsible for all administrative, supervision, and managerial functions of the day-to-day operations of University Clinical Health’s Ophthalmology practices. In addition, the Administrator will focus on providing high-quality care to our patients and physicians through organization and leadership. A successful Practice Administrator will be someone whose administrative expertise contributes to the provision of excellent healthcare services.

Key Results Areas (KRAs):

  • Manage and coordinate activities of employees in the Ophthalmology departments, including training and scheduling
  • Engage in clinical and clerical services related to patient care such as check-in and check-out, charge entry, registration, and payment transactions.
  • Manage and coordinate administrative services such as expense management, safety, payroll, office equipment needs, and purchasing
  • Establish uniform procedures and practices to maintain efficiency in workflow
  • Serve as the subject matter expert of insurance requirements for practice and technical aptitude with EMR/Epic software
  • Responsible for detailing the missing charge report, charge lag, POS collections, on-site IT initial support and decision-maker
  • Assist the Director of Operations with provider credentialing and enrollment process
  • Point of contact for daily operational issues and project involvement with Epic optimization and Choose Excellence projects.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration preferred or at least 4 years of progressive work experience in a medical environment required
  • 2 - 4 years of supervisory or management experience in a medical or ambulatory care setting required
  • Demonstrated experience in coding and revenue cycle management preferred
  • Knowledge of IDX and Epic system preferred
