Job Description - Practice Leader - Higher Education

Overview:

Bergmann, an affiliate of Colliers Engineering & Design is currently looking for a Practice Leader - Higher Education to join our Buildings - Architecture team. The optimal candidate for this role will maintain, create & manage business development opportunites, oversee execution of projects & provide client management.Our team of talented and creative architects work closely as trusted partners with our clients throughout the design process to realize a jointly conceived vision. We offer a full range of services from preliminary planning and feasibility studies through final design and construction inspection for both full build-out, renovations and adaptive reuse projects. Our markets include commercial development, warehousing, pre K-12 and higher education, science and technology, municipal and public works agencies, offices and corporate facilities, and retail and food.Our in-house team of architects, interior designers, engineers, and planners skillfully balance design constraints with the clients needs and desired outcome. This creates collaborative, dynamic and timeless designs. Our professionals also provide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design; programming, corporate branding, standards integration, workstation specification, facilities and construction management support, energy solutions, and LEED certification. We take pride in delivering results that are innovative, sustainable and award winning.Responsibilities:This individual will be respsonsible for the following:Client identification based on the Strategic Business PlanBusiness development strategies including go/no-go evaluationsAssignment of business development contacts to appropriate staffMonitoring of business development success and failuresCreate/Maintain relationships with clientsMarket to new and existing clients for obtaining project work for the companyFunction as a Client/Program/Project Manager/senior technical specialist as appropriatePrepare reports for the progress of each project regarding budget, quality, scheduled targets and other contractual commitments with the Vice President within their business region.Develop the following project services in coordination with either the Vice President and/or Practice Leader and Discipline Manager(s) to complete the project for the client:Project work plansMan-hour budgets and schedules for projects and their component work packages with the establishment of performance indexes concerning cost and schedule in relation to budgeted performance (The Principal shall review with and obtain input from the Discipline Manager(s) necessary to complete the project with regard to staffing as it relates to schedule and budget)Develop and use project scheduling systems and procedures including master project schedulesCoordinate with the Vice President on all activities related to business development including:Client identification based on the Strategic Business PlanBusiness development strategies including go/no-go evaluationsAssignment of business development contacts to appropriate staffMonitoring of business development success and failuresObtain Thought Leader recognition by presenting at conferences, publishing papers, etc.Create, review, and sign off on contractsQualifications:Bachelors degree in engineering or architecture or a related technical field required; masters degree preferred10+ years of related experienceLicensed engineer or architect or license/registration in a related technical fieldDemonstrated experience and proficiency in project management related to large scale projects of considerable complexity within the Design Consulting IndustryDemonstrated success in business development within the Design Consulting IndustryDemonstrated ability to take initiative, to maintain confidentiality, to meet deadlines and to work in a team environment.Able to work closely with staff as assigned by the Practice Leader and Discipline Manager(s) and maintain a positive attitude to complete projects for the client(s) according to the agreed upon schedule and budgetDemonstrated skill in public speaking to industry associations and C-suite level clientsMembership in a variety of professional Design Consulting-related practice organizations, may serve as national board member or officerActive participation in professional, government, charitable, and social organizations and programs within the regionWorking Conditions/Environment:50% travel required to primairly campuses within NYS.What We Offer:At Bergmann, an affilaite of Colliers Engineering & Design, our people are our most important resource.
