Summary: 




The PREA Program offers services to adult sexual violence victims, who are placed within or are exiting (and re-entering the community) the correctional system, and their families.
Services include assistance in applying for victim compensation; forensic exam accompaniment; interview and court accompaniment; emotional support, safety planning; mandated child abuse/neglect reporting; privileged written correspondence, and community resources (if feasible) to maximize the victim’s and family’s resources and capacity to heal. This position also supports victims in juvenile correctional settings within Nevada as needed. 
 





 





 




ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 




Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 





 





  • Assistance with overall crisis response to victims of sexual assault via incoming PREA hotline calls or in-person visits at the hospital. 






  •  Provide long-term, confidential emotional support via written correspondence, scheduled calls, and/or in-person facility visits. 






  •  Maintain working knowledge of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards, specifically, the applicable standard which mandates the partnership between correctional facilities and local rape crisis centers.  








  •  Manage incoming reports of PREA incidents and submit reporting data to appropriate PREA Compliance Manager at correctional facility, ensuring adherence to mandated reporting responsibilities.  






  •  Facilitate educational programs within correctional settings or community settings to assist victims or re-entry victims.  






  •  Responsible for outreach efforts to sexual assault victims within jail/detention centers/prisons. 






  •  Partner with community agencies whose primary focus is family and re-entry services; and expand referral and informational sources for exiting clients which may include counseling, legal, housing and employment needs. Coordinate referrals for victims and their families, as needed. 






  •  Develop, maintain, and update adult and/or youth educational material and distribute, as appropriate.  






  •  
     Continue to refine and expand resource information on partner organizations and resources for clients. 






  •  Collect and track data on services provided, client demographics, and other information for grant reporting. 






  •  Assist with providing data and narrative response for reports to funders, granters, and partners. 






  •  Alongside the Director of Programs and PREA Services Manager review PREA Audits to identify areas needed for improvement and to assist correctional facilities in adopting victim-centered protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS: 




To perform this job successfully, an individual must have necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities, and will have to complete prescribed training programs with Signs of HOPE Advocate University and additional training as identified. Must maintain and have available an active working phone and reliable transportation. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred, with strong written communication skills in English.  





 




EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 




Minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in human services, social work, criminal justice, or related field preferable; a minimum of one year in victim related services or family services; or equivalent combination of education and experience. All advocates must complete a full 50-hour advocate training and participate in continuing education activities a minimum of 3 times per year. Must maintain compliance with UMC’s requirements and remain active and updated with their Human Resources Department. 





 




COMPENSATION: 




$21.50 to $22.00 per hour
