ABOUT THE ROLE

This role will work cooperatively with staff within Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind and Local Education Agencies to expand and enhance the provision of Pre-Employment Transition Services for consumers and potentially eligible students with disabilities.

ABOUT YOU

In this role, you will identify students who are potential eligible for Vocational Rehabilitation Services.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Rehabilitation, Education, Human Services, Human Resources, Business, Marketing OR High School Diploma or GED and minimum of five years of work experience. 

• Possess a valid Driver’s License and be able to be insured by the AIDB insurance carrier.

• Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment.

   

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with individuals who are Deaf, Blind, DeafBlind, multidisabled, or have other significant disabilities. 

• Minimum one (1) year of experience working as a job coach, job trainer, job developer, or teacher.

• Possess a Sign Language Proficiency Level of Intermittent 

   

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Skills & Requirements

• Education & Expertise:  Knowledge of Pre-Employment Transition Services for Vocational Rehabilitation Services for consumers and students.

• Sign Language Proficiency: Achieve a Survival level within twelve (12) months of hire, and progress to an Intermittent level within thirty-six (36) months, as measured by the AIDB evaluation system.

• Travel: Regular travel will be required to support consumers and students.

Program Leadership & Administration:

• Operations Management:  Facilitate opportunities for enrollment in comprehensive transition or postsecondary educational programs of higher education, workplace readiness training, job shadowing, coordinating summer work experience programs, and exploring labor market information and employer site visits. 

• Records Management:  Track pre-employment transition services and referrals of AIDB outreach services. 

• Instruction Oversight:  Provide self-advocacy to students with disabilities, provide workplace training of soft skills training and workplace expectations.

• Cultural Competency: Develop an understanding of the cultures and needs of persons with sensory loss, ensuring all actions demonstrate respect.

SALARY:      $19.17 - $26.41        Scale MH Rank 62  

Direct deposit is required.

The work schedule is based on 8 hours each day with a total of 40 hours each work week.  This is not an exempt position, and is subject to overtime of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
