Job Description - Pre-Op/PACU RN

JOB TITLE: Pre-Op / PACU Registered Nurse - FT


QUALIFICATIONS 


Degree from accredited nursing program.


  Current License as a Registered Nurse (Texas) 


Minimum of 2 years work experience as an RN in ICU or PACU (preferred). 


Required upon hire: BLS, ACLS, PALS


OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE


Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards. 


RESPONSIBILITIES:                                                                                      


1. Performs nursing assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychological and cognitive status.


2. Formulates a goal directed plan of care, which is prioritized and based on determined nursing diagnosis and patient outcomes.


3. Implements care in a knowledgeable, skilled consistent manner in reaching the desired patient outcomes through nursing processes.


4. Establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available center resources of time, personnel, equipment and supplies.


5. Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons and documenting events.


6. Demonstrates applied knowledge base in areas of medical/surgical patient care, pain assessment and actions of pharmaceuticals and anesthetic agents, laboratory                values, safety and legal issues and all emergency equipment.


         a. Peri-op department nurses demonstrate applied knowledge base in specialty area (i.e. OR nurse circulator, PACU, Pain Management, etc.).


7. Practices effective problem identification and resolution skills as a method of sound decision making.


8. Performs documentation duties on the unit and in the patient record, which is timely, accurate and concise. This includes documentation in the electronic medical record.


9. Works as part of the team in delivering patient care.


10. Maintains CPR/ACLS/PALS certification as required by specialty department.


11. Attends all mandatory inservices and participates in staff meetings.


12. Remains flexible, adaptive and able to accept and implement new ideas and approaches.


13. Treats all patients equally adopting the hospital’s Patient Rights policy.


14. Reviews and carries out physician orders in an appropriate professional manner.


15. Willingness to assist with other duties when asked.


16. Performs laboratory Point of Care Testing as required.

  • The employee must be able to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds on a regular basis and be able to push/pull over 25 pounds on a regular basis.

  • The employee must be able to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day.
