Job Description - Prep Cook

Open until filled


This is a union position. 


Schedule: Wednesday and Thursdays 5am to 1:30pm and Sundays 8am to 4:30pm - 24 hours per week 




JOB SUMMARY


Perform routine duties related to preparation and serving of food. Prepare food for cooking by washing, peeling, shredding, slicing and mixing various food items. Operate dishwasher or assists with washing/sterilizing dishes, glassware, silverware, utensils, pots, pans, etc. Clean kitchen work area, collect and dispose of garbage. Assist with stocking food inventory and with light cooking. Transport food items to patient/resident care units.


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES



  • Assist in preparing food trays for general and therapeutic diets.                                                

  • Prepare and deliver items as requested by patient care units.                                                

  • Assist in preparing salads, desserts and nourishments.

  • Assist with taking temperatures of food, freezers, dishwasher, and refrigerator temperatures and document is correct log.                        

  • Deliver food carts to patient care units. Return carts to kitchen at designated times.                     

  • Load and unload dishwasher, wash specified items by hand, i.e. pots, pans, knives.

  • Put clean dishes and utensils away.                                    

  • Dispose of trash and garbage in an appropriate manner.                                    

  • Mop floors as necessary.            

  • Clean walk-in refrigerator and storage areas.                                    

  • Perform special cleaning duties as assigned by the cook or Dietary Manager.

  • Identify and utilize measures for accident prevention.                                    

  • Maintain a neat/clean orderly work area free of hazards.                                    

  • Use equipment appropriately and safely (report needed repairs).                                                

  • Assist in the maintenance of necessary stock of supplies and equipment.

  • Perform other related task/duties as may be requested or assigned by Manager for the effective and efficient function of the department and District operations.



PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS



  • Actively checks and responds to emails at least once while on shift.

  • Completes all mandatory education within given timeframe. 

  • Maintains regulatory requirements.

  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled.

  • Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.

  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community.

  • Attends annual review and department in-services as scheduled.

  • Attends at least 75% of staff meetings; reviews all monthly staff meeting minutes.

  • Actively participates in the department’s quality improvement (QI) activities.

  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices and the employee handbook.

  • Communicates the mission, vision and values of the organization as well as the focus of the department.

  • Meets dress code standards for the department; appearance is neat and clean.

  • All Ferry County Health employees are required to maintain confidentiality in accordance with organizational policy, state and federal regulations, including not but limited to, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). 


 


JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS


 


Education and/or Work Experience Requirements



  • High school diploma/GED equivalent preferred. 

  • Two to three (2-3) years’ experience preferred.

  • Food Handler’s permit required.
