Prepress Technician

Formulates concepts and executes layout designs for artwork and copy to be presented by visual communications media such as magazines, books, newspapers, pamphlets, brochures, television, posters, and packaging by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Works directly with clients/sales through all design phases from concept development through desktop publishing
• Lays out and produces all types of printable assignments by desktop publishing with the best creative solution
• Keys in hard copy and formats and proofs the copy for publication formatting
• Scans Black & White and Color photos for high resolution output
• Makes Iris or Kodak Approval proofs for proofing and press of such photos
• Works with Mac operators for ripping and trapping
• All other duties as assigned

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
• 2 years’ experience in prepress or relevant field
• 1 year experience in problem solving and process improvement working on a digital network utilizing Macs, RIPs,      file servers, digital proofers, and CTP workflow
• Proficient with all major software (Indesign, Quark, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, etc.)
• Knowledge of Esko Automation Engine & Nexus Ripping Systems a plus
• Knowledge of Layout Imposition Software (Kodak Preps) a plus
• Full comprehension in reading work instructions and business memos
• Effective communications skills with all levels within the organization
• Ability to use basic math skills, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, measurements and critical thinking, to solve practical problems
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• Must have the ability to work effectively in stressful situations and meet stringent deadlines
• Be organized and able to plan, prioritize and follow through on projects assigned with minimal supervision
• Has basic computer skills 
• Must be self-motivated, reliable, and quality, safety oriented 

Salary Range: $18 - $22 per hour
