POSITION:                              Preschool Substitute Teacher

JOB CLASS/GRADE:               Assistant/Grade 9

WAGE:                                      Starting at $21.63 per hour

FLSA; EEO; WC:                      Non-Exempt; Professional; 8864

LOCATIONS:                          IRCO Preschool at Indian Hills Elementary School, Hillsboro, OR

FTE; FT/PT; STATUS:             On-call/Casual

REQUIREMENTS: 

Proficiency in written and spoken English; bilingual preferred.  Registration in the Central Background Registry. Completion of   required health and safety training before working with children.

Program Summary
The Preschool Team’s purpose is to provide safe and inclusive learning environments and engaging interactions for the children in their care.  

Position Summary
The Preschool Substitute Teacher collaborates with the teaching team to ensure the wellbeing of the children in their care and support developmentally appropriate activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth while following Oregon state licensing guidelines and early childhood best practices.

Essential Functions

  • Promote and support social, physical, emotional, and intellectual development through planned activities and an engaging classroom environment
  • Actively supervise children to ensure their safety at all times
  • Maintain an environment that is welcoming, clean, organized, and safe 
  • Promote a multilingual/multicultural, family-centered environment
  • Adhere to all Preschool Promise and Oregon Child Care Center licensing requirements and guidelines
  • Assist children with activities of daily life (e.g. handwashing, restroom use, mealtimes, dressing); support children to build independence and develop healthy habits

Secondary Functions

  • Strong intercultural communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Compassionate with the ability to adapt to stressful conditions and manage time effectively
  • Punctual ability to maintain a good attendance record
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

Requirements

    

Education & Experience

  • Enrollment in the Oregon Central Background Registry
  • Some coursework and/or community-based training in child development and early learning theories and practices
  • 1+ years of experience working with young children preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of immigrant and refugee cultures and local populations
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment; bilingual in English and a second language preferred

Physical, Mental, & Environmental Requirements

  • In-person, classroom setting
  • Position requires some analysis of problems or decision-making ability
  • Work under close supervision
  • Well protected environment with minimal hazards or obstacles
  • Stable work schedule with no fluctuations

Supervisory Responsibilities

Positions at this level are not responsible for any supervisory functions or responsibilities.
