St. Thomas More Catholic School, located in southern Kansas City, offers an outstanding

Catholic education to students in preschool through eighth grade. A ministry of St. Thomas More

Parish, the school strives for academic excellence while providing quality spiritual, moral and

The school is a member of the National Catholic Educational Association, the Missouri Chapter

of the National Federation of Nonpublic School State Accrediting Associations, and a participant

in the nationally renowned FIRE, Foundation for Inclusive Religious Education, Program.

Position Description

St. Thomas More is seeking candidates for a preschool aide opening for the 2025-2026 school

year. The successful applicant fulfills the mission of the Catholic Church by planning, guiding,

and evaluating the learning process of the students within the framework of the school's

philosophy, organization, and curriculum. The qualified candidate is competent with skills and

strategies that provide for a safe and caring learning environment and in facilitating

developmentally appropriate activities that maximize student competencies and skills for

intellectual, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual growth. The aide has decision making

responsibilities in keeping with school policies and the Diocesan Administrative Manual. The

position is hired and evaluated by the principal.


Requirements

   Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of duties as assigned by building administration.

• Demonstrate professional responsibility in confidentiality, sound judgment, dress,

enforcing diocesan and school policies and general behavior.

• Manage inappropriate behavior and set high behavior standards within the classroom and

building.

• Must be physically able to perform the job of an aide in a classroom of young children

• Promote positive relationships and effective communication with all staff, parents, and

students.

• Being an active member of a faith community and be a model of the teaching of Jesus.

• Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.

Requirements/Qualifications

• A practicing Catholic with a commitment to working with the STM community in a

progressive, faith-based school rooted in the Catholic tradition and social justice.

• A Child Development Associate (CDA) or 12 credit hours in Early Childhood Education

OR a written plan toward certification in five years.

• College degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe play environment.

• Observe and monitor children's play activities.

• Support children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of

others and positive self-concepts.

• Sanitize toys and play equipment.

• Instruct children in health and personal habits, such as eating, resting, and toilet habits.

• Organize and store toys and materials to ensure order in activity areas.

• Assist in facilitating lunch and snacks with children.

• Teach children to control behavior, such as caring for own clothing and picking up toys

and books.

• Regulate children's rest periods.

• Other duties as assigned by principal or classroom teacher.

Professional

• Protect the rights of and maintain confidentiality regarding students, staff, and families as well

as general school matters.

• Keep accurate and appropriate records.

• Promote a sense of collaboration and teamwork to share information and learning.

Note: All Diocesan employees are required to consent to a background check, and sign and

acknowledge the Ethics and Integrity in Ministry Code of Conduct prior to hire. Completion of

Protecting God’s Children training is required within 30 days of hire.
