About the Position: Support Teacher for All Ages

As a Support Teacher, you will have the opportunity to create a dynamic and engaging classroom environment while receiving the tools and support needed to thrive. You will collaborate closely with the Lead Teacher to nurture and guide children of all ages, from infants to 12 years old, ensuring their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development is met effectively. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead activities to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips.
  • Build strong relationships with children through courtesy, respect, acceptance, and patience.
  • Enforce classroom behavior rules and ensure safety procedures are followed.
  • Plan and conduct activities that balance instruction, demonstration, and work time, allowing students to observe, question, and explore.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs and interests of children.
  • Greet children as they arrive, assist with removing outerwear, and offer engaging activities to begin their day.
  • Attend to the basic needs of children, such as feeding, dressing, and changing diapers, as needed.
  • Teach proper eating habits and personal hygiene.

Work Environment
This position operates in a childcare setting and involves daily interaction with children in early learning classrooms.

Physical Demands
The physical requirements of this job include:

  • Frequent sitting, occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • The ability to frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Schedule
This is a full-time position, with working hours generally Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Extended hours may be necessary to cover staffing during center hours.

Travel
Local travel may be required for occasional training or staff development activities.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Meet HHS minimum education and experience requirements

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Prior teaching experience

Additional Eligbility Qualifications

  • Meet minimum age, education, background check and medical qualifications for caregivers established by DFPS Licensing
  • Complete annual training required by DFPS Licensing
  • Maintain Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certifications
  • If transporting children, Class C driver license with clear Department of Public Safety record and two hours of transportation training annually.
