Job Description - Preschool Teachers Aide

Part of the Site Team, the Teacher Aide assists the Site Coordinator in implementing the Keiki Steps program of instruction in a family-child interactive learning preschool classroom, creating an environment that is conducive to learning.  As a key member of the team, the position will help to ensure that the materials and activities in the classroom adhere to the philosophy, goals and objectives as outlined in Keiki Steps core curriculum and the institution’s mission.



Duties and Responsibilities: 



Execute a high-quality Hawaiian Immersion/Hawaiian-English Dual Language
Hawaiian-practices based Early Childhood Education program utilizing a
kaʻao/moʻolelo curriculum framework.
Support the execution of a high-quality Hawaiian-practices based parenting and child
development curriculum for adult participants in Hawaiian and English.
Support the daily use of Hawaiian cultural activities, practices, and language.
Adhere to INPEACE Employee Handbook, INPEACE Policies Manual, Office
Guidelines and all health and safety policies.
Establish and maintain a positive learning environment that is conducive to
learning
within multiple modalities including in-person and/or distance
learning.
Provide educational support to children and their parents/caregivers.
Integrate a variety of appropriate teaching strategies.
Aide and assist with team kuleana in the implementation of classroom activities,
student and parent assessments, and daily classroom functions and operations.
Assist and support team members with team kuleana, including but not limited to
site set up, execution of programming, and site cleanup.
Work cooperatively with community partners.
Assist with maintaining program files as assigned by leadership and in
accordance with standard operating procedures.
Follow ethical and professional practices in working with children, children’s
records, parents, caregivers, and colleagues.
Assist with providing progress reports and accurate monthly documentation for
site kuleana as assigned and expected by leadership.


Assist in screening and evaluating of children, their families and caregivers in
program.
Meet deadlines for all monthly kuleana submissions and report deadlines.
Attend and actively participate in Programmatic Events, Trainings, and Site Team
meetings as established by leadership.
Accurate and timely submission of PTO (Paid Time Off) requests and ADP
timesheet.
Participate in at least five community events per school year and engage in ongoing
recruitment for the program.
Participate in ECE coursework each semester and actively engage to meet the
minimal educational requirements.
Attend and complete all mandatory and assigned academic coursework and training.
Use effective oral and written expression.
Maintain current certifications including CDA (until AA or higher in ECE is earned),
First Aid/CPR/AED, Food Handling.
Perform Site Coordinator duties in their absence.
Perform other duties as requested.

Minimum Qualifications: 


Base Requirement for all candidates:
Fluent in Hawaiian language.
Additional Education Requirements:
Level 1: High school diploma and at least 1 year experience of working with children
ages 0-5.
Level 2: Child Development Associate (CDA) credentials OR High school diploma
and 3+ years preschool classroom.
Level 3: Associate degree in education or related field, OR AA in other field with
commitment to attain CDA within 1 yr., OR CDA and 6 years’ experience in the
classroom.
Level 4: Bachelor’s degree in education or related field, OR BA in other field with
commitment to attain CDA within 1 yr., OR associate degree (any field) and 6 years’
experience in the classroom.


Skills and Knowledge: 



Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and implement a comprehensive Keiki Steps
instructional program for children and their families or caregivers.
Willingness to integrate new practices and skills into the work environment.
Knowledge of early care and education and other family support services and
resources available in the community.
Willingness to work as part of a team.
Proficiency required in oral and written communication, interpersonal relations.
Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends.
Ability to analyze problems, develop effective solutions and resolve problems within
a Hawaiian cultural context. 



  • Excellent interpersonal skills in order to interact with internal and external individuals, groups, organizations, and community agencies.

  • Proficiency in technological applications including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Zoom, Google Suite, Workforce Automatic Data Processing (ADP).
