Job Description - Press Brake/Laser Technician


As a Press Brake/Laser Technician, you will be essential in forming precision sheet metal parts and supporting efficient production workflows. Reporting to the Shop Supervisor, you will set up and operate press brake machinery, interpret mechanical blueprints, verify tolerances, and ensure safety and quality standards are met. Your precision, reliability, and adherence to the forming process will drive on-time deliveries and quality outcomes. 


Roles and Responsibilities:





Brake Press Operator duties:



  • Design and develop programs.

  • Set up, check programs and operate automatic numerically controlled machines to perform a complex series of progressive operations to meet precise tolerance and requirements.

  • Understand program format.

  • Arrange and secure tooling.

  • Mount, align and secure holding fixtures.

  • Set stops, calibrate fixture to appropriate reference points.

  • Manually cycle machine through operation sequence to check fixture and work positions, tooling, clearances, speeds, feeds, etc.

  • Adjust machine or console to correct deviations.

  • May set up and instruct other machine operators.


Laser Operator duties:



  • Set up, adjust, and operate CNC controlled laser cutting machine to cut pieces from sheet and steel plate stock of various gauges.

  • Set up laser cutting machine for cutting conditions and operations and make adjustments as needed.

  • Identify parts and inspect cut edge quality. Make adjustments as necessary.


Requirements:







  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience. 

  • Team Player, Solid Communication Skills, Good Work Ethic and Basic Computer Skills.

  • Safety Conscious.

  • Communication: proficient English both written and verbal.




Knowledge, Skills & Abilities



  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

  • Knowledge of basic manufacturing and fabrication processes.

  • Ability to accurately use tape measures, calipers, and measuring devices.

  • Strong attention to detail with a keen eye for quality.

  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and remain organized in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to learn and operate multiple types of equipment and machinery.

  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.


 Work Environment:



  • Manufacturing and production floor environment.

  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, loud noise levels, and industrial equipment.

  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and safety-toed footwear.

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and material handling throughout the shift.

  • Overtime and flexible scheduling may be required based on production needs.

  • Work performed primarily indoors in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment.

  • Regular exposure to moving machinery, energized equipment, and industrial tools.

  • Ability to lift and move material up to 50 lbs unassisted.
