Job Description - PREVENTION SPECIALIST

Description

New Horizons is the largest mental health and addiction recovery provider on the Treasure Coast (and beyond), serving 15,000 children and adults annually through inpatient crisis services, 24-hour help line and mobile response team, and outpatient programs conveniently located across Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties. In addition, New Horizons assists 22,000 students in area schools, and we work closely with the courts, law enforcement, jails, and hospitals to help improve the health of individuals and the quality of life in our community.

New Horizons is a nonprofit agency seeking a caring and compassionate Prevention Specialist who is eager to teach, want meaningful work that offers opportunities for growth, and believe that their efforts can make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.  As a Prevention Specialist your responsibilities will include:

  • Provides individual and multi-person substance abuse prevention services at the rate of 120 hours per month
  • Maintains accurate and current case records
  • Level I activities will be documented on the appropriate form (Activity Log) as directed by licensing standards and NHTC standards which apply to prevention
  • Level II documentation will be completed in a chart format and maintained in accordance with the licensing standards and NHTC standards which apply to prevention
  • Documentation of all services and activities will be completed within 24 hours of when the service or activity was delivered
  • Prepares monthly and weekly reports as required by the Agency and/or funding sources

Requirements

New Horizons will need you to have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
  • Experience with children facing substance abuse and/or mental health issues preferred
  • Valid Florida Driver's License required with no more than 6 points in the past 3 years

OR

  • Possess and maintain a certification from the Florida Certification Board and have 5 years of experience with children facing substance abuse and/or mental health issues
  • Written acceptance for Certification in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree must be obtained from the school administration and kept in personnel file
