Location: 7708 El Cajon Blvd., La Mesa, CA 91942

Reports to: Pastor

Employment Type: Full Time

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary Range: $80,000 - $110,000 per year.

Summary 

The Diocese of San Diego is seeking a qualified, experienced, and mission-driven educational leader to serve as Principal of St. Martin of Tours Academy, a vibrant Preschool-8 Catholic parish school in the heart of La Mesa, California, beginning in the 2025–2026 school year.

As a ministry of St. Martin of Tours Parish, our school educates the whole child—spiritually, academically, socially, emotionally, and physically—by fostering a Christ-centered community rooted in Gospel values. The principal, as delegate of the Pastor and the Diocese, is responsible for the overall leadership and daily management of the school, including:

  • Implementing the school’s Catholic mission, vision, and philosophy in collaboration with the Pastor and Diocesan Office for Schools
  • Leading with integrity, vision, and purpose to promote spiritual, academic, and social-emotional development
  • Overseeing and supporting the instructional leadership of faculty, integrating diocesan initiatives for academic excellence
  • Supervising and evaluating faculty, staff, and students
  • Managing school finances in partnership with the Pastor, bookkeeper, Parish Finance Council, and Diocesan Finance Office
  • Ensuring compliance with Diocesan and state educational policies and procedures
  • Serving as a key communicator with school families, parish, and the broader community
  • Collaborating with parish ministries and actively participating in parish life and events
  • Attending Parish Staff and Finance Council meetings, as well as all required Diocesan leadership trainings

Requirements

Religious Requirements:

  • Practicing Roman Catholic with a strong understanding and personal commitment to the Catholic faith
  • Experienced in fostering a faith-filled school culture that reflects Catholic values and traditions
  • Committed to being a visible spiritual leader and role model for students, staff, and families
  • Able to lead prayer, liturgical events, and faith formation opportunities for students and faculty

Professional Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years of successful Catholic school administrative or leadership experience
  • Master’s degree in educational leadership or administration or equivalent; possession of or eligibility for a California Administrative Credential preferred
  • Strong understanding of Catholic educational philosophy and current academic best practices
  • Proven leadership in staff development, curriculum advancement, and community-building
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with school accreditation and strategic planning is a plus

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to remain in an office at a computer workstation and access information from a computer and use a telephone. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the school, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend meetings or events. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
