Job Description - Principal Associate Scientist, Clinical Pathology

Determines normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses (chemistry, hematology, coagulation) of blood, urine, tissue homogenates, and other fluids. Analyzes blood cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and procedures, when needed. Ensures operation of analyzers by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques. Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies. Prepares reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, graphing and summarizing information. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. Maintains inter- and intradepartmental workflow by fostering a spirit of cooperation. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results in a timely manner. BS/MS in Biology, Cell/Molecular Biology, chemistry, or related field with 5-8 years of work experience. MT/MLT ASCP Certification Proficiency in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting all associated equipment (Chemistry, coagulation and Hematology analyzers). Familiarity with data capture systems (ie Pristima) is preferred. Excellent lab technique and ability to work independently. Experience onboarding and validating new assays. Establishing and maintaining reference ranges for multiple species (rat, mouse, nhp, etc). Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) are required. Excellent organization, documentation, and record-keeping are required.
