Principal Engineer

YOUR ROLE

Responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership in advanced specialty disciplines such as software development, systems infrastructure, integration, application hosting, disaster recovery, and related technical activities including implementation, maintenance, databases, and network operations to support business needs.  

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

 

• Provide expert technical leadership and assistance to less experienced staff members.


• Independently perform strategy, planning, and project management tasks for complex IT solutions.


• Develop, document, and communicate plans and specifications for systems architecture and project-based initiatives.


• Provide technical briefings for all levels of business unit and IT management up to and including CIO and CEO.


• Lead enterprise level project team to design, develop and maintain technical components and products including implementation of new product features, development tools, enhancements of existing features, writing unit tests and correcting problems.


• Identify and resolve the most complex and technical programming, configuration, and performance problems with applications.


• Create and maintain documentation for full life-cycle development/maintenance and implementation of hardware and/or software including requirements, analysis, design, and testing.

• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and methodologies and advise IT management staff of new advances.


• Follow established policies and procedures; determine and recommend potential enhancements.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology preferred, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.


• Minimum 15 years previous work experience in information technology development and maintenance designing and developing system level software.


• Minimum 10 years experience leading and managing small to medium sized teams throughout the entire software life cycle.

Skills:  

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, web-based and job specific software applications.


• Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.


• Ability to communicate and interact effectively with people from multi-functional and diverse backgrounds. 


• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.


• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Characteristics:

• Advanced study and knowledge of software development and methodologies.


• Broad architectural knowledge of all components of applications and infrastructure systems including object and component-based development environments; and communications technologies, including middleware.


• Advanced skill in prescribed mathematical formulae and/or models to calculate measures of performance.
