Job Description - Principal Investigator - Archaeologist

We are seeking a Principal Investigator Archaeologist to join our growing Cultural Resources team in Texas. This role is ideal for an experienced archaeologist who thrives in both the field and the office, with opportunities to lead projects, mentor junior staff, and expand our presence across Texas and surrounding states.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise Phase IV archaeological fieldwork in Texas and neighboring states.
  • Identify artifacts, document sites, and collect data and field samples.
  • Analyze prehistoric and historic artifacts, features, and cultural materials.
  • Write and review sections of archaeological reports, including site forms and documentation.
  • Ensure project quality standards while working closely with senior archaeologists, section heads, and project managers.
  • Support business development by assisting with proposals, budgets, and client communication.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor junior field and lab staff.
  • Collaborate with federal agencies, tribal nations, and state regulators.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Anthropology or a closely related field.
  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeologists.
  • 5+ years of professional archaeological experience (CRM experience strongly preferred).
  • 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience on field projects.
  • Familiarity with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the Antiquities Code of Texas.
  • Eligible to obtain a Texas Antiquities Permit.
  • Experience with historic and/or prehistoric archaeology in Texas, Oklahoma, or Louisiana.
  • Strong skills in archaeological field methods, report writing, and team supervision.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel regionally.
  • Experience working with Federal Agencies and Tribal Nations.
  • Writing sample (thesis, dissertation, or archaeological report) required.
  • Must provide 3 professional references with contact information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) or the ability to obtain registration.
  • Experience with GIS software (ArcGISPro, ArcMap, Field Maps, Google Earth), AutoCAD, or MicroStation.
  • Prior experience obtaining a Texas Antiquities Permit.
  • Lab management and curation experience.
