Based in Huntsville, AL, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.\n\nThis position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.\n\nPosition Overview:\n\nThe Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, collectively monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations globally and regionally to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.\n\nThis position is for a Software Engineer on the C2BMC program. The candidate will be responsible for Java-based software development for the Regional Applications/Track Server team in Huntsville. Under minimal direction, the candidate provides specialized expertise across multiple systems and software disciplines, as well as general knowledge of related disciplines, application implications, and customer areas.\n\nEssential Functions:\n\n * Performing in-depth analysis and providing technical support for systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support\n\n * Maintains currency, debugs, and configures related software products\n\n * Works from specifications to develop or modify operating system applications\n\n * Assists with the design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation of programs\n\n * Interfaces with other system support groups to resolve problems, set standards, and improve the operating system\u0027s overall efficiency\n\n * Designs, codes, tests, and implements tools for operational automation\n\n * Works on most phases of software systems programming applications and may require minor instruction and guidance in other phases\n\n\n\n\nBasic Qualifications:\n\nPlease list your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.\n\n * A Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master\u2019s degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree\n\n * Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start\n\n * Experience and knowledge of software practices such as coding standards, automated testing, automated build pipelines, and configuration\n\n * Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment\n\n * Software engineering and software development with strong Java/J2EE, C++/OO, or similar language\n\n * Experience developing enterprise applications on Linux (Windows experience also desired)\n\n * Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to review performance and operational issues, identify the root cause, and recommend, design, and implement a solution\n\n * Use of common software development and management tools such as Maven, Git/GitHub, Nexus, and Eclipse\n\n * Experience with Agile development methodologies\n\n * Understanding of standard systems engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and SysML diagrams\n\n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\n * Command and control system application development\n\n * Experience with Software Integration and formal testing\n\n * Knowledge and experience implementing Cyber Security/RMF requirements\n\n * Ability to present advanced concepts to non-software engineers, including senior program and military leaders\n\n * Experience with performance modeling\n\n * Experience with microservices\n\n * Experience with DevSecOps and/or build management\n\n * Flexibility and willingness to take on unanticipated tasks\n\n\n\n\nWhat We Can Offer You:\n\nNorthrop Grumman provides a comprehensive benefits package and a supportive work environment that encourages your growth, benefiting both employees and the company. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
