Job Description - Principal Systems Engineer

What You'll Do in This Position

Define scope of information technology programs and develop effective quality solutions to challenges which involve unique or complex problems. Develop, recommend and monitor business wide strategic direction for system engineering and services. Direct less senior professionals. Responsible for reliability, stability, and availability of the site's computing infrastructure systems (which may include servers, desktops, storage devices, data center components, utility software, or equivalent infrastructure components). Provide judgment, leadership, and expertise in the large-scale implementation of infrastructure computing systems.
Comply with and define team processes and practices for execution of assigned tasks.
• Maintain technical expertise in systems engineering, demonstrate flexibility in multi-disciplines and assist others in their development.
• Complete assigned administrative tasks in a timely and quality fashion.
• Proactively communicate and coordinate with others across IT to provide support for infrastructure system and drive change.
• Participate in strategic and tactical planning associated with systems engineering, operation and management.
• Apply technical experience in field of specialization to resolve complex problems. Incorporate advanced technical practices and apply new or special hardware, technologies, processes. Lead major complex wide project efforts. Consult, coach, and train others.
• Troubleshoot complex hardware/software systems based on general problem input from management and/or customers. Plan technical effort and coordinate activities with those of other divisions, departments and sections to effectively troubleshoot and solve problems.
• Ensure compliance with technical and security requirements of assigned work and work of others under direction. Ensure the end product is designed to solve the original problem and performs appropriately.
• Determine schedules and staffing requirements for assigned tasks. Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness.
• Ensure that systems security is maintained through access monitoring, control and evaluation.
• Ensure that documentation and configuration information for the systems is accurate and maintained.
• Shift schedule is determined by job assignment and may include off hours schedule.
• Assignment may include 24x7 support as part of an on call rotational assignment.

Other Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Extensive experience in designing, implementing, and managing Dell SAN or equivalent environments, with a strong focus on PowerMax, PowerStore, PowerVault, PowerScale and Unity.
• In-depth knowledge of SAN technologies and protocols, including Fibre Channel, iSCSI, FCoE (Fibre Channel over Ethernet), and NAS (Network Attached Storage).
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire

• Experience configuring, installing, and managing: Servers, Storage area Network (SAN) and network/system security platforms within an Active Directory Domain environment.
• Experience administering and configuring VMWare.
• Experience with certificate authority.
• Experience with Exchange, Skype, Teams, and other collaboration platforms.
• Lead the deployment and configuration of SAN hardware and software components, ensuring seamless integration with existing network infrastructure and systems. Configure storage arrays, switches, HBAs, and SAN management tools according to best practices.
• Develop and maintain disaster recovery strategies for infrastructure, including data replication, backup, and recovery procedures. Ensure resilience and continuity of operations in the event of a disaster or system failure.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues efficiently.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with a customer-focused approach to working with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
• Dell Proven Professional certifications such as Dell Certified Storage Administrator (DECSA) or Dell Certified Implementation Engineer (DCIE) are highly desirable.

A college degree and experience in related assignments

An understanding of the academic as well as the practical aspects of Systems Engineering is preferred

Ongoing technical development in Systems Engineering

Expert level technical knowledge base of technologies, interfaces, protocols, hardware/software, standard concepts, principals and techniques

Ability to apply formal training and guide and provide technical advice to others with less experience

Awareness and general understanding of industry standards and emerging directions in Systems Engineering
