Job Description - Principal/Sr. Principal Safety Systems Engineer Level 3 or 4
-Reviews product designs, associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems. -Independently analyzes and recommends safety criteria in system design, equipment, and procedures to control or eliminate hazards. -Develops safety documents as required to support customer and test/operational range requirements. -Interfaces with engineers to validate safety controls and gather verification evidence. -Supports operational safety activities during manufacturing, integration, test, and launch. -Participates in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities and assists in identification of causes and corrective actions. -Evaluates the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and development requirements to ensure the most cost-effective program. -Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 5+ years of Engineering/Systems Safety experience OR -Master's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 3+ years of Engineering/Systems Safety experience OR -PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 1+ years of Engineering/Systems Safety experience -Candidate must have an active DOD Top Secret security clearance at time of application and prior to start date; a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with investigation date/periodic review completed within the last 5 years; and the ability to obtain and maintain active SCI access within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to the candidate's maintenance of the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future. Principal Systems Engineer - Level 4: -Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 8+ years of Engineering/Systems Safety experience OR -Master's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 6+ years of Engineering/Systems Safety experience OR -PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 4+ years of Engineering/Systems Safety experience -Candidate must have an active DOD Top Secret security clearance at time of application and prior to start date; a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with investigation date/periodic review completed within the last 5 years; and the ability to obtain and maintain active SCI access within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to the candidate's maintenance of the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future. Principal Safety Systems Engineer - Level 3 or 4: -Experience performing Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), Test Hazard Analyses (THA), and support incorporating updates into the existing Hazard Tracking System (HTS) records and Safety Analysis Report (SAR) -Experience developing a System Safety Program Plan (SSPP), Hazardous Material Management Plan (HMMP), Environmental Hazard Analysis Report (EHA) -Experience developing a Missile System Pre-Launch Safety Package (MSPSP), Ground Operations Plan (GOP), Debris Recovery Plan / Mishap Photobook (DRP) -Familiarity with MIL-STD-882E, SSCMAN 91-710, AFI 91-202 -Familiarity with Fed/Cal OSHA Standards -Experience performing System Safety across all phases of a program -Experience performing Safety on the floor during Integration and Test, Assembly, and moving of hardware -Ability to apply extensive technical expertise in System Safety, and has full knowledge of other related disciplines -Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) and clearly present technical approaches and findings -Ability to develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity -Ability to work independently, without appreciable direction -Ability to guide the successful completion of major programs -Active DOD Top Secret clearance with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) along with active SCI access at time of application and prior to start date This requisition can be filled at a level 3 Principal Systems Engineer or a level 4 Sr. Principal Systems Engineer. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
