Prior Authorization and Verification Specilist

MAIN FUNCTION: The prior authorization specialist is responsible for ensuring that payers are prepared to reimburse Griffin Hospital for scheduled services in accordance with the payer-provider contract. The Authorization Specialist will contact the payers to request service authorization and may collect clinical, financial, and/or demographic information from patients as needed.

EDUCATION: Associate degree in healthcare or business administration and/or related coursework, or comparable experience.

EXPERIENCE: At least 5 years of experience in a healthcare performing related tasks

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Excellent communication and customer service skills. Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare insurance processes. Strong attention to detail. Ability to prioritize and multitask. Proficiency in the use of healthcare information systems preferred.
