Private Piano Instructor

An independent school for girls in grades 6-12, guided by the teachings of the Catholic Church, Montrose School was founded in 1979 and is located in the welcoming community of Medfield, 17 miles southwest of Boston. Montrose School attracts a talented and growing student population from 50 towns and communities.

Summary of Position: The Private Piano Instructor will provide private lessons for 6th through 12th grade students on-campus after school. Lessons will be offered from 3:30-6:30pm up to 2 days per week. 

Essential Job Requirements & Responsibilities:

• Teach private piano lessons (length tailored to student experience) to students in 6th-12th grade.


• Build strong technique and music literacy skills to students of various levels.


• Tailor lessons to meet the needs of students with different goals and developmental levels.


• Guide students through building strong practice habits.


• Foster a supportive and positive learning environment.


• Communicate with students and parents concerning progress, attendance, and schedule changes when necessary.


• Collaborate with the Director of Auxiliary Programs & Parent Engagement to confirm student enrollment and attendance.


• Communicate clearly to meet the demands of the job.


• Facilitate preparing students for music program recitals.

• Strong organizational and communication skills

Experience & Education Requirements: 

• Bachelor's degree in music education or piano performance required


• A knowledge of piano pedagogy and repertoire for a variety of genres

Physical Requirements: Primarily based in a classroom environment, requirements include the ability to:

• Sit and stand for substantial periods of time 


• Use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal


• The ability to see clearly at close and long distances, adjust focus, and perceive peripheral vision is required for this job


• Move about the campus and the ability to walk, stoop, bend, reach, ascend/descend stairs, and lift or carry music equipment up to 10 pounds


• Hear and speak to communicate information in person or in writing
