Procedure Specialist - Electric Utility Operations

Are you a seasoned electric utility professional with a passion for building a safer, more reliable grid? We are looking for a hands-on Procedure Specialist to join our team and take ownership of the standards that keep our Transmission, Distribution, and Substation operations running smoothly.

This is a hybrid role designed for someone who understands the realities of the field. You will split your time between remote work, collaboration at our Melrose Service Center, and direct engagement with field crews. What You’ll Do

• Develop the Standards: Lead the creation, refinement, and documentation of standardized operating procedures, work methods, checklists, and technical guidelines for electric utility operations.
• Bridge Theory and Practice: Collaborate directly with Journeymen, engineers, and cross-functional teams to translate field expertise into clear, actionable procedures.
• Lead Technical Reviews: Coordinate the review cycle for technical documents, ensuring alignment with safety regulations, industry standards, and company goals.
• Drive Innovation: Participate in mock-up and simulation construction to test new methods and support the integration of new technologies into training programs.
• Ensure Compliance: Champion safety and regulatory compliance by embedding best practices into every procedure.
• Support the Mission: Be available to support emergency storm response efforts and occasional after-hours work as needed.

You are a utility professional with a "been there, done that" attitude. You understand the nuances of working on the line or in the substation, and you are ready to apply that knowledge to improve how the entire organization operates.

Required Qualifications:

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on electric utility construction experience (Journeyman level) OR a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline with 2 years of relevant utility experience.
• Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of electric utility systems, including overhead/underground distribution, substations, secondary networks, metering, and/or transmission.
• Writing & Communication: Proven ability to draft clear, concise, and accurate technical procedures. Strong verbal communication skills to present ideas and lead discussions with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
• Collaboration: A team-player mentality with the ability to facilitate meetings, ask the right questions, and build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
• Problem-Solving: A proactive approach to identifying gaps in current procedures and recommending practical solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
• Experience working with industry committees or participating in technology integration initiatives.
• A natural curiosity and drive to continuously improve processes.

Additional Requirements

• This is a safety-sensitive position. Candidates must be willing and able to participate in emergency storm response assignments.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to travel locally as needed for field engagements and stakeholder meetings.
