Job Description - Process Systems Analyst

Overview:

I. The Process Systems Analyst will be responsible to maintain, control, validate, audit, and improve all Boars Head Provisions manufactured items. The Analyst is expected to maintain product quality, support, and adhere to all food safety programs and ensure product and processes are consistent and meet process specifications. This position requires a person who is highly structured and possesses exceptional technical and practical skills. Candidate will be considered the “Plant Processing Specialist” and exhibit strong knowledge of our product lines, manufactured products, and processes.

Job Description:

This role is responsible for, and provides oversight for, the development of robust manufacturing control programs including ongoing maintenance and improvement of the Process Operating Guides, Process Procedures, Point of Process Expectations, Process Change Process, Process Specifications, DNA Process Control Program - utilizing Ignition, Oracle, Matrix, and plant floor observations of process and process equipment and recipes.

Management of the S.C.O.P.E sensory evaluations will be required inclusive of logged finished quality grading/assessments.

The Analyst initiates and authorizes all testing related to process and product improvement, nutritional alignment, new vendor validation, and participates in plant training as necessary.

The role requires the individual to work cross-functionally with all Plant and Corporate Departments.

An enthusiastic interest in new processing technologies and adapting new technologies to products and processes will be expected.

Requires the ability to direct and handle multiple tasks at one time. The ability to adapt to unforeseen circumstances, resolve conflict, and gain trust and support from all disciplines with minimal assistance is essential.

Duties:

  • Oversee plant processes control and improvement programs inclusive of all engineering/ maintenance/ reliability projects.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve Process Operating Guides, Process Procedures, Process audits, Process improvement, DNA process control functions.
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with cross-functional groups (R&D, Procurement, Engineering, Cost Accounting, Manufacturing, and Quality) on quality and process control related projects and issues.
  • Establish and maintain point of process product expectations (POPEs) while monitoring all process deviations.
  • Drive Product/Process Improvement projects through the use of operational and quality related metrics
  • Accountable for driving successful actions and maintain measurable improvement.
  • Conduct tests and analyze data to improve product quality.
  • Oversee the process change system in the plant to ensure it is effective, accurate, and all information is properly communicated and recorded.
  • Evaluate data, conduct root cause analysis, and provide direction for process problem resolution.
  • Analyze data from multiple sources to create reporting diagrams, charts, and reports to maintain and improve product quality. 
  • Provide training to plant supervision and other support to resolve processing problems and maintain product quality.
  • Be an advocate for Protecting the Brand as far as not allowing the team to compromise quality for other gains.
  • Support your local team at the plant by being a true process partner that supports operational needs/initiatives while keeping the team aligned with our approved processes

Education and Experience

  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years’ experience working in a production/manufacturing environment; preferably in meat processing or similar food processing environment. 
  • A degree in Engineering, Food Science, Agricultural Studies, or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Experience demonstrating an understanding of processing and quality monitoring. 
  • Must have the ability to use Microsoft Office programs.  Experience with databases and other analytical software programs helpful.

Language Skills

Effective communication with all levels of plant personnel is necessary; must be fluent in English.  Must effectively communicate on a technical level and effectively express technical concepts to non-technical personnel.  Must be able to write and interpret technical reports. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Words and PowerPoint as aids in communicating reports and projects to management.

Mathematical Skills

Capable of performing and understanding mathematical calculations associated with meat processing and laboratory testing such as product formulations, percent yield, added ingredients, and protein fat free calculations.  Must be able to read and analyze process data, charts, graphs, and logs. This is inclusive of and not limited to structuring and interpreting large amounts of data in Microsoft Excel.
