River Market Community Co-op is hiring a Produce Assistant Manager!

Experience-based pay ranging from $21.00 - $23.00 per hour

Must be available to work weekends on a regular basis. Candidates without one or more years of experience working with produce will not be considered.

River Market Community Co-op is seeking a candidate with experience working with produce in a retail environment. The Produce Assistant Manager works with the Produce Manager to oversee a team of approximately 3-5 Produce Clerks. It is important that this candidate is skilled in assessing stock and ordering produce, preparing produce for sale, training and directing staff, and is familiar with the operations of a produce department.

Supervises: Produce Clerks

Job Duties:

• Work with manager to create department excitement using product, merchandising, signage and décor
• Assist in maintaining attractive, fully stocked, rotated, and faced sections, including promotional areas
• Stock alongside and give direction to produce clerks when working in department
• Provide product information for customers and staff
• Provide prompt, friendly, and courteous customer service and assistance with special orders
• Place orders as needed to ensure adequate supply for volume needs and usage
• Call in credits as needed to the appropriate warehouse in a timely manner
• Prepare price changes as needed following established department criteria.
• Train new employees
• Communicate with manager and share management responsibilities as assigned
• Fill in for uncovered shifts
• Translate manager’s vision into operational reality
• Perform all other duties as assigned

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Prior produce experience (at least 1 year)
• Prior retail customer service experience preferred
• Able to withstand cool temperatures and repeatedly wet conditions
• Able to multi-task, perform repeated bending, twisting, standing, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs
• Able to walk and stand on hard surfaces for prolonged periods
• Proficient in basic arithmetic including counting, addition and subtraction
• Computer proficiency in: MS Office-Outlook, Excel, Word

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS: Must be physically able to occasionally grasp, grip, pull, push, twist, and turn as needed. Must be able to tolerate working with and around water.

Constant (67-100%): Walking, standing, talking, hearing, correctable vision including near acuity and depth perception, working in refrigeration

Frequent (34-66%): Bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds floor to waist

Occasional (1-33%): Pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds floor to waist, lifting up to 100 pounds with assistance floor to waist, lifting and reaching waist to shoulder, lifting and reaching above the shoulder
