Job Description:

The Produce Manager reports to the Store Manager and is responsible for the overall success of the Produce Department by managing staff, customer service, inventory, product shelf life, and cleanliness to provide the high-quality products and service that our customers expect. This position directly supervises the Produce Assistant Manager, Produce Clerks, and the Floral Manager. The Produce Manager is expected to work 5 days per week for a total of 45 hours, including one weekend day. 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Strategically merchandising and tracking sales
• Handling customer issues and ensuring customers have an excellent experience
• Managing product inventory, shrink, and packaging
• Ensuring high quality products and becoming an expert on all department items
• Deciding and planning the weekly promotions for the department
• Creating schedules for all Produce employees
• Ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation standards
• Maintaining all department equipment, such as knives, juicing machine, grinders, etc.
• Monitoring Produce staff progress by providing regular feedback
• Effectively training and educating new Produce employees
• Effectively delegating staff for maximum productivity
• Verifying pricing and signage throughout the department and display areas
• Participating in meetings with vendors and department managers
• Developing and maintaining good relationships with vendors
• Keeping up with product and merchandising trends
• Maintaining a clean, organized, fronted, fresh, and well-stocked department
• Reviewing weekly invoices
• Leading the department's quarterly inventory
• Attending food shows as directed by upper management
• Additional duties as assigned

Requirements

Skills/Experience:

• Management experience in a grocery or other retail setting
• Previous Produce Department experience or related experience and knowledge
• Moderate computer skills, including email, Excel, Word, and online ordering systems
• Great multitasking, organizational, communication and customer service skills
• Comfortable working with the public and greeting, speaking with, and assisting customers
• Attention to detail, ensuring duties are completed correctly and on time
• Leadership, sales, and merchandising skills
• Previous experience working with vendors and ordering product

Education/Credentials:

• High School Diploma/GED
• ServSafe/Food Safety certification or willingness to obtain
• College education (classes, certificate, or degree) preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, twisting, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, and reaching
• Must be able to frequently lift up to 60 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds
