The Product Development Engineer will be a part of a multidisciplinary team of R&D/Product Development engineers working in a collaborative environment that inspires the cross-fertilization of ideas necessary for true innovation. Test & evaluation, systems analysis and integration, research and development of COPV (composite overwrap pressure vessels) in a real-time environment. Will help guide the manufacturing process, eliminate waste, and assist in driving continuous improvements in our processes.
Job Duties: Incorporate new plans, designs and systems into ongoing operations. Develop technical documentation, develops product design documentation. Guides product development, DOE, and planning through preparation of engineering management plans and destructive testing plans. Provide engineering support in the definition, design, development, analysis, test, and integration of COPVs. Develop, manage, validate and verify testing/production requirements in support of customer requirement/product specifications. Analyze customers requirements, concept of operations documents, and high-level product designs to develop product requirements and specifications. When required, interact with customers in formulating requirements, advises alternative approaches, and conducts feasibility studies for proposed product designs. Interface with vehicle elements, vehicle contractors, and stakeholder organizations to ensure the principles of the fault management discipline are adhered to in the vehicle and interface designs and operations. Influence product and manufacturing design changes for improved COGs and manufacturing scalability. Assist and lead product and process transfers to manufacturing. Work with the operations staff to ensure products under development are optimally manufacturable and helps resolve manufacturing issues. Support the development of process improvements, methods, and production controls. Validate processes, evaluate failure data to find root cause and implement sound solutions. All other duties as may be required.
Qualifications: B.S. in aerospace, electrical, or mechanical engineering or related field is required, along with a min of 3-5 years of experience, preferably in a COPV or aerospace manufacturing environment. Experience in project management and new product introduction. Demonstrated experience and functional knowledge of regulatory, compliance and quality requirements in a manufacturing environment, familiarity with ASME quality standards. Functional knowledge of process validation execution. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications especially, MS Office Suite. (Access, MS Project). Strong planning, organizational, and interpersonal skills, plus the ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment. Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload. Flexibility and ability to adjust to changing priorities and unforeseen events; excellent time management skills. Able to handle high pressure situations and constructively resolve potential conflicts.
