Product Lead, Consumables

The Opportunity

As Product Lead, you'll drive the formulation and development of high-performance cleaning and household products that reflect simplehuman's standards for innovation and quality. You'll work closely with contract manufacturers, raw material suppliers, and internal teams to bring products from concept to launch-ready. This role focuses on technical execution, regulatory compliance, and manufacturing readiness, ensuring each product meets our standards before it goes to market. It's an opportunity to build and shape a growing category within a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment. This is an on-site position located in our Torrance, CA office. Some domestic travel is required.

What You'll Own

• Lead end-to-end development of consumables—from concept through formulation and testing


• Collaborate cross-functionally with industrial design, quality, creative, and supply chain to align product performance with brand and user experience


• Develop and refine formulations, working closely with contract manufacturers and internal stakeholders


• Ensure products meet regulatory requirements (EPA, FDA, California Prop 65, etc.)


• Establish product specs and oversee performance, stability, safety, and claims testing


• Identify new technologies, ingredients, and trends to keep our portfolio forward-thinking and effective


• Source and evaluate potential partners (labs, co-mans, raw material suppliers)


• Engage directly with new and prospective vendors—asking the right questions to understand their technology, capabilities, and innovation potential, and evaluating fit for our portfolio
  

What We're Looking For

• 5–10 years of experience in product development within CPG, preferably in household cleaning, personal care, or similar categories


• Strong background in formulation science, surfactants, and active ingredients


• Deep knowledge of regulatory compliance (EPA, FDA, INCI, etc.)


• Experience working with domestic and/or international contract manufacturers


• Strong project management skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, design-driven environment


• Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly align cross-functional teams and external partners


• BS or MS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field preferred
