Job Description - Product Marketing Lead

Product Marketing · Reports to VP of Marketing

Ocean is building the future of email security.

The attacks getting through today often look completely normal. AI did not invent targeted phishing or social engineering. It changed the economics of it. What once required a highly skilled attacker can now be created at scale, in minutes, and often looks like a completely legitimate message from someone you trust.

Ocean is the first agentic security platform built for this new reality. Our agents investigate suspicious emails the way a great security analyst would: understanding context, following the evidence, and explaining what they find.

Founded in 2024 by Shay Shwartz and Oran Moyal, Ocean is built by people who understand sophisticated email attacks from the inside out. Today, we protect hundreds of thousands of mailboxes and analyze more than a billion emails every month for companies including Kayak, Headspace, and Fortune 500 enterprises. We're backed by $28M from Lightspeed Venture Partners, Picture Capital, Cerca Partners, and some of the best operators in cybersecurity.

And we're just getting started. This is an enormous market opportunity. The problem is getting harder, the category is changing quickly, and Ocean is growing fast.

We're hiring our first Product Marketing Lead.

This is not a role where you inherit a playbook and spend your time managing it. You'll have the opportunity to help define how Ocean shows up in the market from the ground up.

You'll work directly with our founders and closely with the teams building the product, selling it, and working with customers every day. You'll help turn a genuinely differentiated product and an incredibly interesting problem into a company and category that people understand, remember, and want to be part of.

We move quickly. Good ideas can become real very fast. We care about quality, but we don't believe great work requires endless meetings, layers of approval, or bureaucracy. You'll have real ownership, direct access to the people making decisions, and a huge amount of room to make your mark.

If you want to join a company at a moment when your work can have a disproportionate impact, work on one of the most interesting problems in security, and build something that you can genuinely look back and say you created, this is a rare opportunity.

Own Ocean's story

Develop and evolve how we position Ocean in the market. Build messaging that is clear, differentiated, and compelling, and adapt it for the audiences and moments that matter most.

Turn complex technology into something people care about

Work closely with product, engineering, sales, and customers to deeply understand what we're building and why it matters. Then turn that understanding into stories, messaging, and content that make buyers pay attention.

Be a content engine

Create high-quality content that educates the market, builds credibility, creates demand, and gives our sales team something worth sharing. You'll develop ideas and bring them to life across formats, from thought leadership and technical storytelling to customer stories, launches, and other high-impact content.

This is a hands-on role. You will create the work yourself. You'll have support and resources, but we're looking for someone who genuinely loves writing, storytelling, and making things, not someone who primarily briefs other people to do it.

Shape how Ocean shows up in the market

Help build Ocean's voice and presence across the places and conversations that matter most. You'll have significant freedom to experiment with new formats, channels, and ideas, and you'll help identify opportunities to get Ocean into the conversations our buyers and the security community care about. Our #1 priority is AI search, AEO should frame all your content.

Partner with the field

Give our sales and customer-facing teams the messaging, materials, narratives, and content they need to communicate Ocean's value clearly and create momentum with prospects. Stay close to what is happening in the market and use what you learn to make our story sharper over time.

Lead major product and company moments

Help lead how we introduce important product and company moments to the world. From the initial story through execution, you'll help ensure that the work is clear, compelling, coordinated, and actually gets noticed.

Build the function

You're our first product marketer. You'll help define what great product marketing looks like at Ocean and build the foundation for the function as the company grows.

You should have:

  • Product marketing experience at a cybersecurity startup. This is a must. You understand the security market, how security buyers think, and what it takes to market a complex technical product in a crowded category.
  • Exceptional content creation and writing skills. You are a content engine. You can take an idea, technical insight, product capability, customer problem, or emerging trend and turn it into compelling content that educates the market, builds credibility, creates demand, and gives our sales team something worth sharing. You don't just brief agencies or manage freelancers. You can create excellent work yourself.
  • Experience owning positioning and messaging. You know how to take a technical product and figure out what matters, who it matters to, and how to communicate why it is different. You can turn that thinking into messaging and content that people actually remember.
  • Experience leading analyst briefings yourself. You can sit across from Gartner, Forrester, IDC, and other industry analysts, clearly explain a technical product and point of view, answer hard questions, and build credibility.
  • Exceptional communication skills. You are an excellent writer and communicator with a sharp instinct for what makes a story compelling. You're comfortable creating content for US buyers, analysts, customers, and the broader security market.
  • Deep technical curiosity. You do not need to be an engineer, but you genuinely want to understand how things work. You'll happily sit with engineers, ask question after question, dig into the details, and keep going until you understand the product well enough to explain it simply and accurately.
  • Strong technical range. You are comfortable talking to highly technical people and translating complex technology into clear, compelling stories for different audiences.
  • Experience operating as the whole product marketing function, or close to it. You are comfortable owning a broad surface area, moving from strategy to execution, and figuring out what needs to happen without waiting for someone to hand you a perfectly defined plan.
  • You are an AI super-user. AI is deeply embedded in how you work. You are constantly experimenting with new tools and finding better ways to research, learn, create, and move faster. You don't just use AI to polish copy. You instinctively reach for it to research, solve problems, develop ideas, create content, and extend what you can do.
  • Comfort appearing on camera and communicating publicly. You're at ease explaining complex security concepts, sharing a point of view, and telling technical stories to an external audience.

The person we're really looking for:

You're unusually curious.

When someone tells you something interesting, your instinct is to ask more questions. When you encounter a technical concept you don't understand, you want to keep digging until you do. When a new AI tool comes out, you've probably already tried it.

You're a creator at heart. You see an interesting technical problem, product insight, customer story, or shift in the market and immediately start thinking about the story. You can turn that thinking into something people actually want to read, watch, share, and talk about.

You can move between worlds comfortably. You can spend time with an engineer getting deep into how something works, then turn around and explain why it matters to a CISO, a sales team, an analyst, or someone who has never heard of it before.

You have strong taste and high standards, but you're not precious about your work. You want feedback. You change your mind when the evidence says you should. You care about getting to the best answer.

And because this is an early-stage company, you need to genuinely enjoy the building part. There will be ambiguity. There will be things nobody has done before. You should find that exciting, not frustrating.

Most importantly, you're someone who wants to understand the future before everyone else does, and then help explain it to the world.

How to Apply:

Send us your CV along with three things you made yourself in the last 12 months. Blogs, white papers, launch materials, videos, presentations, customer stories, or anything else you're genuinely proud of. We care much more about seeing how you think and create than seeing a perfect list of logos on a resume. Please send work that you personally created, rather than work you only managed or briefed someone else to produce. We'll read/watch the work before the resume.
