Product Owner

Candidates MUST be located in the Kansas City Metro Area

Kicksite is the software that thousands of martial arts schools use to run their business — memberships, billing, scheduling, student progress, and communications. We're looking for an experienced, collaborative Product Owner who can turn ideas into clear, detailed, buildable requirements. A major part of this role is identifying the questions that haven't been answered yet, proposing thoughtful solutions, and carrying work through development, testing, and release. This role is a strong fit for someone with a Business Analyst-to-Product Owner background who enjoys bringing clarity to complex systems and finding structure in ambiguity.

We use a hybrid of Shape Up and Agile practices that we continue to refine. This is a definition and delivery role, not a process-administration one, though you'd have meaningful input on how our processes evolve. We’re looking for someone who can think critically about what we’re building, uncover missing requirements, and help bridge the gap between “we know the problem we want to solve” and “the development team knows exactly what they need to build.”

This role reports to our Head of Product, who will continue to own product strategy and high level shaping. You’ll take that direction and turn it into detailed specifications, business rules, edge cases, and development-ready work. You'd work with one small, dedicated product team — under a dozen people across engineering, design, QA, and user research — supporting several concurrent areas of the product. We build one product for all of our customers, so this is product definition work, not client-by-client customization. Experience as a Senior Business Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, Product Owner, Product Analyst, or similar role would translate well. Experience in SaaS, startups, small businesses, or growing technology companies is a plus. 

What You’ll Do

• Translate product pitches into detailed, buildable requirements and specifications.


• Identify missing business requirements, edge cases, dependencies, and downstream impacts before development begins.


• Write and maintain high-quality tickets for projects, enhancements, bugs, and small improvements.


• Serve as the day-to-day contact for developer questions about expected behavior and requirements.


• Carry work through development, QA, UAT, and internal release, partnering with Engineering, Design, and User Research along the way.


• Sequence work within priorities set by the Head of Product, in coordination with Engineering.


• Own, assess, and maintain the queue of bugs and small product improvements.


• Triage product questions and requests from Support, Customer Success, Sales, and other teams.


• Partner with Design to identify usability and interaction gaps.


• Coordinate internal product release readiness, release notes, and communication.


• Help improve requirement standards, development workflows, and lightweight process metrics such as cycle time, blocked work, and rework.

What You Bring to the Team: 

• You've owned requirements end-to-end for a product area or major feature set, not just individual tickets.


• Strong business rule, workflow, edge-case, dependency, and impact analysis.


• Ability to derive testing scenarios from requirements.


• Enough technical literacy to ask engineers strong questions and understand constraints. 


• Strong understanding of user flows and interaction logic.


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


• Comfort working directly with engineers, designers, QA, leadership, and customer-facing teams.


• Strong judgment, organization, and ability to work independently in an evolving environment.

This is an onsite role based in Overland Park, KS. After an in-person ramp-up period of a few months, the schedule includes a flexible work-from-home day if desired. We're only considering candidates in the Kansas City metro area.
