This role is responsible for reviewing products and supporting the certification process to ensure compliance with IAPMO-recognized standards, applicable codes, and performance requirements. The position works closely with customers, internal teams, and certification committees to complete projects accurately and on time.
Review test reports, drawings, calculations, and supporting documentation for compliance
Perform initial and secondary technical and engineering reviews
Coordinate testing and obtain quotes from recognized laboratories
Prepare and manage certification documentation, applications, and lab submittals
Work directly with clients to clarify certification requirements, scope, and timelines
Support Product Certification Committee (PCC) activities and meetings
Complete renewals and determine re-testing requirements
Assist with training, policy updates, and process improvements
Support complaint investigations and corrective actions as assigned
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely project completion
Supervise junior staff in the absence of leadership, as needed
Follow company policies, safety practices, and confidentiality requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum 3 years of experience in product testing, certification, standards development, or a related field
Minimum 5 years experience in Engineering
Knowledge of U.S. and Canadian product performance standards
Familiarity with water systems, including water softeners, filters, and reverse osmosis systems
Understanding of applicable water system performance standards
Familiarity with NSF/ANSI 61, low-lead regulations, and EPA WaterSense certification
Awareness of California Energy Commission and similar regulatory requirements
Familiarity with IAPMO R&T policies and procedures
Understanding of accreditation standards such as ISO/IEC 17065, 17020, and 17025
Expertise in at least one certification program, such as:
Drinking Water Treatment Units or Drinking Water Additives
State Certification Programs
FIFRA
International Certification Programs
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
