Production Chemist II
Role overview
The Chemist II is responsible for executing air-sensitive chemical manufacturing processes with a primary focus on the preparation, purification, and filling of customer-ready chemical containers and canisters. This role requires hands-on experience with inert atmosphere chemistry, reactor operations, and analytical testing to ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality production in a regulated chemical manufacturing environment.
The Chemist II operates independently on routine production activities and supports continuous improvement, documentation, and safety initiatives.
Key deliverables for this role
- Perform air-sensitive chemical reactions, purifications, distillations, filtrations, and extractions using glassware and reactor systems (up to ~72L).
- Prepare, transfer, and fill customer containers and canisters with air-sensitive chemical products (solids, liquids, and gases).
- Charge solids, liquids, and gases into reactor systems and monitor reaction progress.
- Accurately document all work in batch records, MPRs, logs, and lab notebooks in accordance with GDP.
- Label all reactions, products, and waste materials per SOPs and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in audits, investigations, and quality improvement activities.
- Follow all safety procedures, identify hazards, and report unsafe conditions.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of chemical waste and by-products.
- Participate in safety meetings and incident investigations.
- Perform routine equipment and preventive maintenance (e.g., pumps, stirrers, heat transfer systems).
- Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and support corrective actions.
- Maintain inventory of chemicals, consumables, and production supplies.
Traits of a strong candidate
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field, or High School Diploma with 5+ years of industrial chemical manufacturing experience.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in chemical manufacturing or production.
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Inert atmosphere techniques (glovebox or Schlenk line)
- Transferring air-sensitive reagents (solid, liquid, gas)
- Air-sensitive distillations
- Reactor and glassware systems
- Strong mechanical aptitude and basic equipment troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with hazardous materials packaging and customer-ready chemical filling operations (preferred).
- Experience in regulated or quality-driven manufacturing environments.
- Experience with chemical scale-up or process development is a plus.
