Description

Reporting to the Executive Chef, this position is full-time and responsible for food preparation for various meal programs including meals for senior and childhood hunger programs.

The Production Cook is responsible for preparing and/or directing the preparation of food to be pulled, complying with all applicable sanitation, health and personal hygiene standards and following established food production programs and procedures. The employee is responsible for appropriate use of facility supplies and equipment to minimize loss, waste and fraud. This position is responsible for instructing and working with volunteers on a daily basis.

Education

  • High school diploma or the equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of prior food handling/service work preferred. Preferred prior work experience in high volume kitchen. 

Licenses

  • Ability to obtain a Health Card 
  • Ability to obtain a ServSafe a plus, but not required

  •  Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions and information in English
  •  Professional personal appearance.
  •  Excellent communication, interpersonal and organization skills required.
  •  Ability to meet company's production and quality standards.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly.
  • Ability to speak to large groups of people and train on specific tasks.
  • Ability to work in a team environment required.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Job functions are performed primarily in a clean, ventilated, well-lighted temperature controlled environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

  • Surroundings spend time indoors in air-conditioned areas and in the warehouse.

Expectations

  • General Expectations
  •  Prepares or directs preparation of food packed using established production procedures and systems; determines amount and type of food and supplies required using production systems; ensures availability of supplies and food or approved substitutions in adequate time for preparation. Replenish as needed.
  •  Ensures compliance with menus, recipes, production schedules, and quality standards.
  •  Will maintain food storage areas including thawing preparation for meal items and maintain food log.
  •  Stores food properly and safely, marking the date and item; ensures proper quality and quantity of food packaged and/or served. 
  •  Complies with established sanitation standards, personal hygiene and health standards. Observes proper food preparation and handling techniques. 
  •  Ensure all kitchen equipment is in good working condition. 
  •  Maintain temperature logs hot, cold, and sanitation. 
  •  Keeps work area neat and clean at all times; cleans and maintains equipment used in food preparation. 
  •  Assisting with oversight of inventory food orders on a daily basis.
  •  Assist with completion of daily production sheets.
  •  Assist with maintenance of kitchen area to include cleaning the kitchen. 
  •  Regular use of forklift and pallet jacks after training.
  •  Regular and consistent attendance.
  •  Other duties as assigned.

Other: Must be able to work occasional evenings. Employee must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.
