Production Designer

Job Description - Production Designer

smartdept. is searching for a Production Designer for a financial services client located in Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will come with 2+ years of experience. This is a project-based, fully remote (hybrid Chicago area a plus), ongoing as-needed contract opportunity with the possibility of continued work.

This Production Designer will support a large internal creative team at a Fortune 200 financial services company across a wide range of digital production deliverables. This is a Google-platform environment — candidates must be deeply comfortable in the Google ecosystem and able to think from the end user's perspective. Work is ad hoc and project-based, so reliability, speed, and the ability to jump in quickly are essential.

What You'll Do:

  • Design and produce landing pages, website assets, and digital content

  • Build reports, deck kits, and slide templates in Google Slides, including Google Theme Builder

  • Create email headers, branded graphics, and branded marketing items

  • Develop campaign templates and social and community investment assets

  • Support large internal events including an annual Data Week conference — heavy on templates, branding, and marketing collateral

  • Publish and format assets across multiple channels with a solid understanding of different channel mechanics

  • Ensure all work meets accessibility standards and document design best practices

What You'll Need:

Education/Experience:

  • 2+ years of production design experience required

  • Experience working in a corporate, agency, or in-house creative environment required

  • Portfolio required — should demonstrate document design, slide/deck design, branded graphics, data visualization, and social assets

Skills:

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) required

  • Strong working knowledge of Google Workspace — especially Google Slides and Google Theme Builder required

  • Solid understanding of accessibility standards and document design

  • Ability to work across multiple channels and formats, built to spec and on brand

  • Self-directed — able to execute with minimal direction on fast-turnaround ad hoc projects

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience working within a Fortune 200 or large enterprise environment

  • Familiarity with email production and multi-channel digital publishing workflows

  • Motion design or After Effects experience (longer term video opportunities may open up)

  • Chicago area with hybrid availability a plus
