Job Description - Production Foreman 2026 (INTERNAL ONLY)


This is an INTERNAL POSITION ONLY - Outside applicants will not be considered.

Purpose of Position: The Production Foreman will supervise a crew of employees to ensure their safe and efficient performance as they conduct their activities.  The Production Foreman will work under the direction of the Shift Supervisor.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum of five years of practical experience in surface mining or related field is required
  • Diverse range of mining experience is desirable
  • Successful applicant will be required to pass the Mine Foreman examination

  • Must have knowledge of the production capabilities, operating techniques and maintenance requirements of equipment used in the reclamation process.
  • General working knowledge of computers.  Regular use of company email and Microsoft Office Products (i.e. Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel) will be required.
  • General knowledge of the regulations and safety standards governing the industry.
  • Must be able to analyze information, data, and tasks, draw conclusions, make timely recommendations, and make fair and impartial decisions.
  • Daily attendance is required unless authorized by Supervisor.  Will follow 10-hour rotating shift schedule.

Critical Working Relationships:  Production Manager, Shift Supervisors, Foremen, Safety Department Staff, Engineering & Environmental Technical Staff, Hourly Personnel.

Responsibilities:

1. Safety:  Responsible for ensuring the safety of team by continually monitoring work environment and work habits of all personnel.  Responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe work area for team members as well as others who work in close proximity to reclamation crews.

2. Supervision:  Responsible to coordinate mining activities in a manner that effectively utilizes team members & equipment available. Responsible for ensuring that team members have proper training and specific knowledge to perform assigned tasks effectively.  Periodically supervise other crews dependent upon the total supervisory needs of the shift.

3. Environmental Compliance:  Responsible for execution of environmental stabilization or repair projects in a timely manner.

4. Equipment Maintenance:  Expected to work cooperatively with the maintenance department to ensure that equipment is properly maintained and kept in a safe operating condition.

5. Personnel:  Responsible for creating a healthy work environment for team members and coordinating the utilization of all operational team members with other foremen.  Expected to work cooperatively with opposite shift foremen/supervisors to complete work plans in a safe and efficient manner.

6. Special Projects:  Plans, coordinates, and carries out special projects for the organization under the direction of the Shift Supervisor or Production Manager.
