Job Description - Production Group Lead IV - MB

A Day in the Life

The Group Lead supports daily manufacturing operations by coordinating production activities, coaching team members, and reinforcing execution of safety, quality, and delivery expectations. This role provides frontline leadership presence, promotes continuous improvement, and helps ensure reliable product flow to support therapies that positively impact patient lives.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Coordinates and leads daily production activities including equipment testing, manufacturing, disassembly, and reassembly in alignment with supervisor direction and established procedures.

  • Allocates and prioritizes operator resources to meet production schedules across multiple manufacturing lines while maintaining safety, quality, and delivery expectations.

  • Communicates operational status, process deviations, and escalation items to the Manufacturing Supervisor in a timely manner.

  • Provides coaching and technical guidance to operators and assemblers on production processes, equipment setup/breakdown, and structured problem solving.

  • Partners with Team Leads to execute real-time line balancing and staffing adjustments using standard tools and standard work.

  • Supports inventory control processes in collaboration with Material Handling, including cycle count readiness and quarterly execution activities.

  • Facilitates and reinforces Tier 1 execution, including Roto Cube management and alignment to Medtronic Performance System (MPS) principles.

  • Serves as delegate for the Manufacturing Supervisor as needed, supporting day-to-day operational coordination and facilitation of Tier 1 and Tier 2 meetings.

  • Ensures adherence to Medtronic quality system requirements, safety standards, and regulatory expectations within the tiered management structure.

  • Supports a culture of engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement through coaching, feedback, and participation in CI initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in a manufacturing or regulated production environment

  • Proven ability to lead, coordinate, or provide informal leadership within a production team

  • Working knowledge of production processes, equipment operation, and standard work execution

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and support multiple manufacturing lines in a fast-paced environment

  • Effective communication skills with the ability to escalate issues and provide clear status updates

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and production tracking systems

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant manufacturing experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior leadership experience (Team Lead, Trainer, or equivalent informal leadership role)

  • Experience in medical device or other regulated industry (GMP / FDA environment)

  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or structured problem-solving tools

  • Experience with 5S principles and workplace organization practices

  • Experience with tiered management systems and visual management tools

  • Knowledge of inventory control practices and cycle count processes

  • Experience with SAP production transactions and inventory visibility tools

PRODUCTION SUPPORT CAREER STREAM: Provides support in manufacturing operations and/or distribution centers including assembly, machinery, processing, packaging, and/or distribution of company products. May set up and operate automatic or semiautomatic machines and related equipment in a continuous production/processing operation. Reports any malfunctions or abnormalities in machines, with higher levels recommending and/or making adjustments to methods and processes. May be involved in shipping, receiving, inventory control, or storage of products in distribution centers.

DIFFERENTIATING FACTORS

Autonomy: Works on assignments that are complex in nature.
Trains, delegates and reviews the work of lower level employees and may be responsible for leading daily operations of a work team.
Performs a variety of complex or technical-advanced clerical duties in distribution center.

Organizational Impact: Often acts as a facilitator and team leader in manufacturing/production operations or distribution center.
Work may include complex and complicated activities related to special assignments, and providing instructions to accomplish day-to-day activities to junior individuals in the department .

Innovation and Complexity: Problems faced are general and may require understanding of other job areas but typically are not complex.
May be responsible for working with supervisor to identify potential adjustments or enhancements in systems and processes to solve problems or improve effectiveness of job area .

Communication and Influence: Communicates typically with internal and external contacts, as needed.
Obtains and provides information on matters of significant importance to the job area.

Leadership and Talent Management: May act as a team lead and assistant to the supervisor / manager.
May delegate tasks to other team members and be responsible for the review of work product.
Does not have formal management responsibilities, but may provide input to management in this area.

Required Knowledge and Experience: Requires advanced knowledge within a specific discipline typically gained through broad work experience and/or education.
Requires minimum of 8 years of experience and may require vocational or technical education or certification in addition to prior work experience.
May require vocational training and/or certification.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$50,400.00 - $75,600.00

 

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Operations Incentive Plan (OIP).

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
