Production Planner

Job Description - Production Planner

Every Nancy’s product starts with two things: fresh milk and a solid plan. Here, you own both, turning demand into a weekly schedule that gets cultured dairy from the milk truck to the cooler, fresh and on time.

Nancy's Probiotic Foods

Springfield Creamery Inc., maker of Nancy’s Probiotic Foods, is a premier producer of cultured dairy foods, with over 65 years of rich heritage within the Natural Foods Industry. We are a market leader, with established national distribution across Organic and Natural cultured dairy products. “Nancy’s” is a beloved brand known as a trusted source for live probiotics, authentic ingredients and a loyal consumer following. We are based in Eugene, Oregon and continue to be family-owned and operated for three generations and counting.

As a respected legacy company, Springfield Creamery values integrity and partnerships and the Production Planner joining our team will be an important collaborator in supporting sustainable growth and a stable, predictable plant as we continue to build our legacy.

What You Will Do

You will own the production schedule for a plant making yogurt, kefir, cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, and butter. You’ll take input from Sales, Supervisors, Maintenance, and QA, turn it into one clear plan, and keep that plan current. Planning runs on an advanced Excel workbook, and you’ll be the person who knows it inside and out, improves it, and helps shape the company’s future ERP transition. This is an onsite role, 5 days/week, in Eugene, OR.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and publish the weekly production schedule by line and shift, with a rolling four-week outlook

  • Translate sales forecasts, customer orders, and promotions into production requirements by SKU

  • Plan new product launches and line trials with R&D, Operations, and Sales, including first-production dates and ramp-up

  • Own schedule changes: evaluate the impact, communicate changes clearly, and keep one current version of the plan

  • Own fluid milk procurement: calculate milk requirements from the schedule, place milk orders with suppliers, and coordinate receiving volumes and timing

  • Coordinate with Procurement on supplier lead times, minimum order quantities, and delivery dates; reconcile them against production dates and raise conflicts before they become downtime

  • Coordinate with Logistics/Shipping so production supports truck schedules, distributor orders, and customer delivery windows

  • Lead cycle counts and inventory reconciliation with the warehouse; investigate and resolve variances

  • Run a short weekly planning meeting with Production, Procurement, Logistics, QA, and Maintenance to lock the upcoming week

  • Communicate the daily plan and any changes to Shift and Department Supervisors in a consistent, standard format

  • Use Redzone (or equivalent) data to track plan attainment and feed actual line performance back into planning assumptions

  • Maintain master data that planning depends on: bills of materials, run rates, batch sizes, pack configurations, and lead times

  • Build food safety requirements into the schedule: allergen sequencing, sanitation windows, hold-and-release timing, and organic/grass-fed segregation

  • Follow all GMPs, SQF requirements, and plant policies when on the production floor

  • Track plan attainment and weekly KPIs, and keep improving the planning tools and process

  • Oversee one direct report who handles production entry and inventory scanning

Who You Are

You are a planner who enjoys solving problems as much as building schedules. You’re at home in a complex spreadsheet: you can trace a broken formula, rebuild a pivot table, and make a large workbook do more. You listen well, take input from the floor seriously, and can hold a plan under pressure while explaining the trade-offs. You’re curious, collaborative, and excited to own and evolve a role in a family-owned company rather than step into an existing, rigid structure. Dairy experience is a bonus, not a requirement; food, beverage, and other perishable manufacturing backgrounds translate well.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of production planning, scheduling, or supply planning experience in manufacturing, ideally food or beverage

  • Advanced Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables, and modeling with large data sets

  • Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems and inventory control practices

  • Understanding of shelf life, lot control, and traceability in a perishable environment is a plus

  • Professional, organized approach to supplier communication and competing priorities across departments

  • Preferred: experience in dairy, organic, or specialty product lines such as grass-fed or protein

  • Preferred: new product launch experience, APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM or CSCP), or familiarity with Redzone

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, operations, business, or a related field; bilingual English/Spanish a plus

Benefits

  • Excellent healthcare benefits w/ 100% of premium covered by employer

  • 401k w/ company match

  • PTO, sick time, paid holidays
