The Opportunity
A growing Pittsburgh-area manufacturer is seeking an experienced Production Planning Supervisor to coordinate production scheduling, material availability, inventory control, and warehouse material flow.
This is a highly visible position reporting to the Director of Operations with regular interaction with senior leadership. The Production Planning Supervisor will serve as a key link between Production, Warehouse, Purchasing, Sales, Customer Service, and Quality to ensure customer demand is translated into an accurate and executable production plan.
What You'll Do
Develop and maintain production schedules based on customer demand, forecasts, inventory targets, available capacity, labor, and material availability.
Coordinate production sequencing across manufacturing and packing operations to improve efficiency and minimize downtime and changeovers.
Adjust production schedules based on equipment downtime, material shortages, quality issues, production performance, and changing customer priorities.
Monitor execution against the production plan and identify capacity constraints, delays, and delivery risks.
Supervise the creation, release, accuracy, and closure of production work orders.
Ensure work orders contain accurate product information, quantities, bills of materials (BOMs), routings, and traceability requirements.
Maintain accurate ERP planning and master data, including lead times, BOMs, routings, and inventory parameters.
Ensure raw materials, packaging, and other production materials are available when needed.
Coordinate with Purchasing and Warehouse teams to identify and resolve material shortages and delays.
Maintain inventory accuracy and lot/batch traceability across raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
Lead cycle counts and investigate inventory discrepancies through root-cause analysis and corrective action.
Coordinate warehouse activities, material staging, receiving, storage, transfers, and finished-goods movement based on production priorities.
Maintain proper FIFO practices and material-handling procedures.
Ensure ERP transactions accurately reflect production and inventory activity.
Partner with Quality regarding damaged, unidentified, or non-conforming materials.
Communicate production priorities, schedule changes, material constraints, and delivery risks across departments.
Work with Sales and Customer Service to align production priorities with customer requirements and realistic shipping commitments.
Supervise and coordinate warehouse and material-handling personnel.
Establish clear daily priorities and maintain accountability for safety, inventory accuracy, material availability, and process compliance.
Analyze differences between planned and actual production results and support continuous-improvement efforts.
What We're Looking For
2+ years of relevant production planning, materials planning, production control, inventory, or manufacturing operations experience.
Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, materials, or related environment.
Experience developing and maintaining production schedules.
Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and production work orders.
Experience working with BOMs, routings, inventory records, and production-related master data.
Experience coordinating raw materials, WIP, finished goods, and production material flow.
Understanding of inventory control, cycle counting, and discrepancy resolution.
Ability to coordinate effectively with Production, Purchasing, Warehouse, Quality, Sales, and Customer Service.
Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supervising warehouse or material-handling employees.
Experience supporting extrusion, packaging, or similar manufacturing operations.
Experience with lot/batch traceability and FIFO inventory practices.
Continuous-improvement and root-cause analysis experience.
Spanish language skills are a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
$70,000–$80,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
