Job Description - Production Powder Coat Paint Lead

Job Summary

The Production Powder Coat Paint Lead will lead the Powder Paint Department. The Production Powder Coat Paint Lead will use industry standard powder painting techniques and processes to surface prep and apply powder paint on aluminum and steel substrates. Typical paint department processes include, sanding, polishing, loading, unloading, cleaning, etching, pre-treat, masking, painting, touchup, and rework processes.

Supervisory Responsibilities

· This position will lead all powder paint department employees and assist in inventorying parts and tracking paint usage

· Will be responsible for inspecting for and maintaining a high level of quality for all coated parts produced by department 

· Accurately complete production paperwork and labor reporting

· Lead will ensure all required maintenance is performed on all paint department equipment

· Maintain a neat, clean, and orderly department and ensure all employees are wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment

· Assist with production and personnel scheduling

Essential Job Functions

· Lead all powder paint department employees 

· Assist in inventory of parts and tracking paint usage 

· Accurately complete production paperwork and labor reporting 

· Ensure all required maintenance is performed on all paint department equipment 

· Assist with production and personnel scheduling 

· Maintain a neat, clean and orderly department 

· Ensure all employees are wearing and using the appropriate personal protective equipment 

Essential Knowledge Skills

· Plans execution of production work orders, gathers required tools and materials and follows instructions and paint specifications required for the job 

· Prepare parts for coating by sanding, wiping, hanging parts on the conveyor and masking 

· Ability to use manual hand-held paint guns to apply powder paint as parts move past on the conveyor

· Operate all coating equipment including, but not limited to; guns, pump agitators and booth filtration system

· Observe prep process, cleaning process, powder application and curing processes to detect defects and apply corrective action 

· Knowledge of thermosetting resin coatings, wash and pre-treatments

· Ensure quality standards and processes are used throughout the paint department 

· Ensure safety guidelines are being met to assure a safe work environment 

· Have general knowledge of the mechanics and repair of painting equipment 

· Understand the proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment 

  

Required Skills/Abilities:

· Strong background in powder coating and industrial painting 

· Strong attention to detail and quality mindset

· Demonstrated ability to work independently 

· Strong bias for action and results – ability to move with speed and purpose

· Demonstrated history of excellent leadership skills 

· Must be able to motivate and encourage team members

Education Requirements:

· Six months paint application experience required 

Physical Requirements:

· Be able to lift and move hand-held paint guns for extended periods

· Must be able to see details at close range and verify correct paint application or identify defects

· Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time 

· Must be able to work at a fast pace

· Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by lifting, walking, bending, twisting and carrying materials
