Job Description

This position supports operation by providing leadership to the production areas.  Qualified candidates must be able to perform a variety of jobs, tasks, or duties as required; and must be able to work any shift, overtime, and weekends as required. The intention of this role is to prepare the employee for future advancement into a supervisory or management position. This job will impart training for growth and development in leadership and production skills. Candidates must understand this is not intended to be a perpetual position – it is a stepping stone for people with ambitions of upward mobility.

The tasks required, but not limited to, are general housekeeping, clean up, sweeping, vacuuming, painting, lubrication (oiling, greasing, etc.), sample retrieval, power washing, lifting and hauling items up and down stairs, dump rework, and operate a motorized fork lift and a variety of other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Supervision

  • Reports to Packaging Supervisor
  • Work under close supervision 10% of time
  • Lead production employees on shift
    • Lead shift huddle meetings
    • Delegate tasks for day-to-day operation

    Primary Objectives

    • Leading shift to improve and optimize production line efficiencies
    • Leading shift to improve efficiencies and time management
    • Leading shift to improve and maintain good housekeeping
    • Develop knowledge, skills, abilities in preparation for job advancement

    Primary Duties

    • Coordinate production with production scheduler and operators
    • Direct and assign housekeeping duties to maintain clean production areas
    • Update cleaning schedule logs
    • Assure quality of product produced
    • Monitor production rates
    • Fill in on production lines as needed (breaks, lunches, vacations, etc.)
    • Identify needed mechanical improvements
    • Make necessary mechanical repairs when possible
    • Identify and work to eliminate unsafe conditions and or practices
    • Monitor completion and accuracy of production reports
    • Plan/prepare oil so operator is not waiting for product
    • Load and unload bulk oil/ ingredient trucks as needed
    • Complete necessary steps of strapping tanks and recording in log books
    • Tank to tank transfers from hydro to packaging, additive blending of tanks
    • Provide complete pass-down to following shift
    • Direct, escalate, or handle employee issues as appropriate per policy/protocol
    • Respond to incidents in a safe, responsible, and professional manner
    • Manage maintenance issues
    • Oversee operations of the entire plant

    Qualifications

    Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent - REQUIRED & VERIFIED

    Related Experience:  Previous relevant experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment

    Equipment/Software Skills: Basic computer knowledge, forklift experience a plus

    Competencies:

    1. Lead shift to improve and optimize production line efficiencies
    2. Lead shift to improve efficiencies and time management
    3. Produce accurate documentation
    4. General math comprehension
    5. Maintain good attendance record
    6. Must be willing and able to learn various roles 

    Special Requirements:

    • Ability to get along well with other people
    • Ability to operate and understand packaging equipment and processes
    • Basic math skills
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Desire to advance into management position
    • Willing and able to be promoted to advanced position (i.e. Supervisor) on any shift at Plant Management’s discretion once fully qualified
    • Availability to permanently fill either of at least two full shift’s requirements for assigned roles.
    • Ability to operate forklift truck and load trucks
    • Basic mechanical skills

    Physical:  Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds, climb stairs, lift, bend, kneel, stand for long periods of time, work in confined spaces, and work with heights.

    Salary Range: $41,600 - $57,200 annually
