Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Director of Advising and Retention. This position will work with students to develop action plans, provide individual advising, engage in career education, and help the student to explore and access career and other enrichment opportunities. This exciting opportunity requires an individual who is highly flexible, attentive to details, works well with a diverse array of constituencies, and possesses effective communication skills.
Responsibilities:
Provide academic advising to a selected group of students at the University of Mount Saint Vincent, including assistance with registration, major selection, withdrawal from courses, leave of absences, withdrawal from the College, and graduate school selection.
Support onboarding and registration of incoming students.
Provide comprehensive needs assessment, academic planning, consistent outreach promoting registration, and on-going monitoring of participants progress toward retention and graduation.
Encourage persistence and completion by helping Pell-eligible students find ways to overcome both academic and “real-life” barriers and to identify strategies for success.
Advise new transfer students and evaluate transcripts for students.
Respond to Academic Alert forms submitted by faculty and staff members through EAB Navigate.
Design and deliver student success workshops on topics that focus on student wellness and executive functioning such as stress management, time management, and study skills for students in the designated programs.
Make referrals to other points of service such as counseling, financial aid, career services, student life, etc.
Design an academic program for “at risk” students and meet more frequently with students that have been placed on academic warning and probation.
Actively promote and support the college by participation in other campus-wide recruitment activities (i.e., Accepted Students Day, Orientation), public presentations, and serving on boards and committees.
Support the College mission based on value-oriented education, rooted in the Catholic tradition.
Participate in professional development opportunities.
Remain current in high impact practices as related to academic advising, student success, and higher education.
Other duties as assigned
Bachelors' degree, Masters' preferred
Proficient in Microsoft 365 - Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.,
