This position will coordinate and manage scholarship applications and enrollment in community doula trainings held by Happy Mama Healthy Baby Alliance in Los Angeles County, California. The position will also serve as a co-course leader for birth and postpartum doula trainings in in-person and hybrid formats. The position will support training graduates in becoming Certified Birth Doulas and Certified Postpartum Doulas.
This is a temporary part time, non-benefit eligible position (12 hours per week/240 hours over 5 months/ limited term until June 30, 2026.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teaching perinatal and maternal-child public health and social justice topics during doula trainings.,
Co-conducting doula training courses that include logistics and administrative planning and execution.
Ability to teach from a standardized curriculum over the internet or in-person perinatal health topics to adult learners seeking certification as community doulas.
Coordinating scholarship applications, interviews, and the selection process for enrollment into doula trainings.
Provide mentorship graduates of doula trainings seeking certification.
Suport doula training graduates in completing certification requirements.
Keep accurate and up-to-date records on status of doula certification for each participant in training.
Supervise and manage Birth and Postpartum Doulas interns during their certification process who will deliver pregnancy and birth support services in the hospital and in clients home providing breastfeeding support, support for maternal physical recovery, instruction on newborn care, screening for PMADs, and referrals if needed.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Three years’ experience as a supervisor/manager in a health or social service setting required;
Demonstrate an ability to implement research-based health education strategies and best practices in perinatal health and lactation required.
Ability to plan, coordinate, and organize work projects and meet deadlines.
Three years’ experience with course facilitation and presentation skills in English and Spanish on perinatal topics to adult learners.
Strong interpersonal communication skills and conflict resolution ability.
Trained in cultural awareness and racial equality or willingness to attend training within 6 months of hire.
Understanding of quality-of-life issues experienced by BIPOC persons in Los Angeles, CA.
Experience collaborating with a variety of staff at all levels and community partners
Strong attention to detail.
Passion for and commitment to the mission of Happy Mama Healthy Baby Alliance.
Aptitude for solving problems with creativity and resourcefulness.
Ability to develop positive relationships with clients, doulas, providers, staff, interns, apprentices, volunteers, and supervisors.
Proficiency with Microsoft Apps (word, excel, powerpoint, sharepoint) for work, and social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook).
Ability to work independently with little supervision, flexible hours, work virtually on personal computer, and have reliable transportation and the ability to travel throughout Los Angeles County.
Completion of HIPAA Training within 1 week of hire.
Has personal computer and steady internet at place of work.
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s Degree (required); or Master’s (preferred) in subject areas of Health and Human Services, Health Education and Promotion, Public Health or Maternal and Child Health.
3 years experience teaching adult learners in community setting (required).
5 years’ experience working as a Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, Midwife, or in-home visitor providing social services and lactation support to diverse populations, including BIPOC, refugees, and immigrants, including adolescents (required).
Certificates/Licenses/Clearances
Certified Birth Doula required from any certifying entity (required)
Certified Postpartum Doula required from any certifying entity (required)â
Certified Lactation Educator or Certified Lactation Educator-Counselor required from any certifying entity (required)
Certified Childbirth Educator preferred any certifying entity (required).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Spanish language proficiency to teach perinatal topics
Certified Professional Midwife or Licensed Midwife or Certified Nurse-Midwife
Registered Nurse with Maternity and Newborn Nursery and Perinatal Education Teaching Experience
