REPORTS TO: CEO



Exempt🗹


SALARY: Commensurate with work experience.


HOURS: Full-time



JOB SUMMARY:


The Program Director is responsible for overseeing the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of all youth programs at the Boys & Girls Club. This role ensures high-quality programming by leading staff in curriculum development, program assessments, policy creation, and data-driven decision-making. The Program Director also manages grant reporting, staff hiring and evaluations, supports behavioral management, leads parent communication, and designs program logistics, including scheduling and supply orders. Additionally, the Program Director works closely with the Director of Operations on payroll and scheduling to ensure alignment with the Board-approved budget.



Key Responsibilities:


Program Development & Evaluation



  • Lead staff in developing lesson plans that align with program objectives.

  • Implement and assess program effectiveness through BGCA’s NYOI (National Youth Outcomes Initiative) surveys, pulse checks, YPQA (Youth Program Quality Assessment), and other program assessments.

  • Develop and enforce program and organizational policies to ensure consistency, quality, and effective implementation.

  • Oversee the planning and execution of after-care, summer camp, flagship grant-supported programs, and other initiatives such as Teen engagement, Youth of the Year, etc.


Staff Leadership & Development



  • Recruit, hire, and train Youth Development Professionals (YDPs) to deliver engaging programs.

  • Conduct regular evaluations of YDPs, providing coaching and professional development opportunities.

  • Manage staff scheduling to ensure program coverage, sufficient supervision and efficiency.


Participant & Family Engagement



  • Ensure that the program and wellness teams address youth behavioral issues with appropriate interventions and strategies.

  • Ensure communication with parents regarding behavioral concerns, program updates, and youth progress.


Partnerships & Community Engagement



  • Lead regular programmatic partnerships with schools, community organizations, and vendors.

  • Work collaboratively with external partners to enhance programming opportunities for youth.


Grant Management & Reporting



  • Collaborate with the Associate Executive Director during the grant planning process to co-develop realistic, actionable budgets.

  • Oversee grant-funded programs, ensuring alignment with grant objectives, compliance requirements, and timelines.

  • Monitor and manage staff hours and program expenditures tied to specific grants to ensure full utilization of allocated funds and adherence to budget expectations.Prepare and submit grant reports, tracking outcomes and program impact.


Operational & Resource Management



  • Manage program scheduling to optimize resources and engagement.

  • Oversee program supply orders to ensure necessary materials are available.

  • Work closely with the Director of Operations on payroll and scheduling to align with the Board-approved budget.


Qualifications & Skills:



  • Bachelor’s degree from a school of social work, education, public health, management, plus 3 or more years direct experience in youth development/education.

  • Must satisfy New Jersey OOL requirements for licensed childcare.

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple programs and staff.

  • Experience with program assessments, data analysis, and evaluation tools such as NYOI surveys and Youth Impact Network.

  • Ability to provide constructive feedback, hold staff accountable, and address performance issues through timely, professional, and solutions-focused communication.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills for partnership development.

  • Knowledge of grant reporting and compliance.

  • High level of competency in successful utilization of technology and applications for assessment and research.

  • A track record of outcome driven presentations and publications.




RELATIONSHIPS:


Internal: Maintain close connections with executive, professional, operational and program staff to ensure quality of staff training regarding data collection, integrity of data systems and clarity of communication about outcomes research findings/value evidence. 


 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:


To demonstrate the ability to lift moderate weight during shift. Be able to stand on your feet throughout the day.
